“ | If you don't show up here in a half-hour, alone, unarmed and with no cops, I kill your friend. And it wouldn't be the first time, would it? | „ |
~ Ellis DeWald threatening to kill Janice and taunting Foley over murdering his boss. |
Ellis DeWald is the main antagonist of the 1994 comedy crime film Beverly Hills Cop III, the third installment of the Beverly Hills Cop film series.
He is the head of security of the popular theme park Wonder World, who secretly uses the premises to produce counterfeit dollar bills.
He was portrayed by Timothy Carhart.
What Makes Him Pure Evil?[]
- He had the designer of the Wonder World theme park, Roger Fry, murdered when he discovered that he ran a secret criminal organization right under the noses of everyone in the Park, where he'd print millions of fake dollars and tried to alert the public.
- He went to purchase a hijacked van loaded with mint paper in a mechanic workshop. However, when he had ensured the paper was there, he had the entire workshop staff gunned down.
- He shot and killed Foley's boss, Inspector Todd.
- Mocked Foley for this twice, first asking if he was mad that he "shot his boyfriend", and second when he later noted it wouldn't be the first time he killed one of Foley's friends.
- As he was tearing out of the workshop in a getaway vehicle and his sidekick in the passenger seat revealed he was shot and begged for help, DeWald simply threw him out of the vehicle and right under the wheels of Foley's car, which was on their tail.
- When Foley went into Wonder World to investigate, DeWald had his guards do everything in their power to neutralize him, even though it meant endangering countless civilians.
- They violently overrode the controls for the Spider ride to bring Foley down which caused it to glitch, endangering everyone on board and sending two kids nearly plummeting to their deaths before being caught by Foley.
- They opened fire using silencer guns while Foley is in the midst of the thronging park. DeWald was perfectly aware of the danger he was putting innocents in, as he later sarcastically chided Foley by saying, "My God, there were hundreds of small, innocent children..." Yet, DeWald is real apathetic and heartless liar about the lives with hypocrisy.
- He shot the innocent, elderly creator and mascot of the park, Uncle Dave, in the gut to frame Foley for the attempted murder after also killing the latter. Uncle Dave would have died if Foley hadn't immediately driven him to the hospital after escaping himself.
- When DeWald learned that Foley was in possession of a piece of mint paper they had used to print money, and that Janice, an employee of Wonder World, was in league with Foley, DeWald took Janice hostage and demanded the paper. However, when Foley showed up to parlay, it became clear that DeWald wasn't intending to let either of them live.
- In the end, he attempted to murder Foley, Janice and the entire police force sent to arrest him, before he was fortunately shot and killed by Foley.
- Though the Man of the Year ceremony mentions he has done work for underprivileged kids, and he's seen smiling with a few of these allegedly impoverished children, it's clear that this is just a publicity stunt to keep up his philanthropic image and possibly hates kids.
- Despite the comedic nature of Beverly Hills Cop, he is taken seriously and hasn't many comedic moments.
Trivia[]
- Ellis DeWald is the only villain in the Beverly Hills Cop franchise to be Pure Evil.
- Ironically, despite being the franchise's only PE, when reflecting on the disappointment that Beverly Hills Cop III was, Murphy noted that he felt DeWald was a "weak villain" as he didn't kill someone close to Foley like Maitland or Dent did, despite DeWald having killed Inspector Todd.
