NOTE: This page is only about the original Los Llanos tale of El Silbón, as later versions of the tale have given him mitigating qualities, and thus only the original tale's info and crimes should be put here.

When you hear it close by, he’s far away, and when you hear it far away… it’s close, to this day, it continues to happen in the Venezuelan plains.
~ The legend of El Silbón.

El Silbón, also known as The Whistler when translated, is a spirit found in Venezuelan legends. He is a former farmer who became a damned soul after he killed his father.

What Makes Him Pure Evil?[]

  • When he was alive, he was a spoiled farm boy who demanded that his father cook him venison for dinner. When his father refused, he proceeded to brutally rip his organs out and cooking them to eat for dinner.
  • He not only consumed his father's organs but also cooked them up and fed them to his mother.
  • After his mother discovered what she had eaten, the boy's grandfather had him hunted down by dogs to pay for what he did, at which point the boy returned to life as the demonic and vengeful spirit El Silbón.
  • He stalks the Venezuelan plains, hiding in the trees and attacking people by brutally ripping them to pieces and adding their corpses to a sack where he keeps his father's remains as well.
  • He proved to be, deep down, an absolute coward, given that he will instantly retreat has any dog barks be heard nearby, reminding him of how he died as well as of the last sounds he heard before die.
  • He torments those he kills before he attacks them, whistling to signal that he is nearby and going to kill them.

Trivia[]

  • Only the Los Llanos version of the tale is PE, as the broader Venezuelan version has him kill his father for killing his wife, and the Colombian version has him target drunkards instead of innocent people at random, giving him redeeming qualities.
