Ego the Living Planet is the main antagonist of the What If...? episode, "What If... Peter Quill Attacked Earth's Mightiest Heroes?"
He is an alternate version of Ego the Living Planet who successfully had Peter Quill delivered to him. After this, he used Peter Quill to power the Expansion and destroy hundreds of worlds.
He was voiced by Kurt Russell, who also portrayed the main universe version of Ego, as well as playing Stuntman Mike in Death Proof.
What Makes Him Pure Evil?[]
- He committed the exact same crimes as his Sacred Timeline counterpart up until he found his son Peter Quill.
- Slaughtered thousands of his own children for not inheriting his Celestial gene.
- Although he originally loved his girlfriend Meredith Quill and made a statue in her honor, he gave her a brain tumor that killed her so that nothing could stop him from his Expansion and blew his chance of redemption. Unlike his Sacred counterpart, he is callous when he reveals this to Peter and barely tries justifying it, which is not a good idea and this caused his son to use the seedling as a weapon to destroy his avatar form.
- Manipulated Peter into giving up any affection so that he could unlock his powers so he could begin his omnicide, planning to kill Peter if he failed to manifest his powers. Despite being Peter's father, Ego does not care about him and only sees him as a pawn to further his plans. He doesn't even bother to spend time with family and prefers to cause mayhem and destruction.
- Destroyed Peter's Walkman despite knowing how much it meant to him from his mother, and it's another act of vandalism.
- He used Peter to go on a mass murder plan to expand himself across the Universe, destroying countless planets and killing billions of people. At some point, he destroyed Asgard, with it being implied Thor Odinson being the sole survivor, the last of his own kind - the Asgardians and wanted to avenge the ones he lost.
- Although he can initially be seen as a somewhat tragic character at first, as he lived for many years in absolute solitude, and when he met another life, it was a disappointment, as he was saddened by the fact that he had not found another immortal, this does not at all justifies his actions, since he goes far enough that he is ready to absorb and destroy all intelligent and irrational life in the universe, being simply a complete egotist who wants to spread his influence over everything and everyone and is nothing but a deadly disease.
- Not to mention the fact that he was ready to calmly kill his son, Peter Quill, as soon as he ceased to be useful to him, or did not live up to his expectations.
- When Peter refused to take part in the Expansion, Ego forcibly took control of him and forced him to travel to various planets, activating their seeds, detonating them as bombs.
- After arriving on Earth, he stole the Seed and tried to use it to destroy Earth, as the last remaining realm.
- He tried to kill the Avengers, and S.H.I.E.L.D. when Howard and Hope were protecting the seedling from him.
- It could be argued that he's even worse than his Sacred counterpart since this version of Ego has no comedic moments aside from acting like a jerk who has a twisted sense of humor and sarcasm, and is played completely seriously and did all of the above to Peter when he was still a child, as opposed to Peter's Sacred counterpart being an adult at the time.
