Edgar Janssen, otherwise known as simply Edgar, is one of the overarching antagonists (alongside John Bailey-Brown and Devlin) of the Apple TV+ British drama-thriller miniseries Hijack.
Edgar is the co-leader of the Cheapside Firm, alongside his partner John-Bailey Brown, which is an international crime syndicate based in Britain. He also sends hitmen to kill not only those who cause trouble in their plans, but also their families, including those of their own employees. When the syndicate is busted and the 2 men are imprisoned, Edgar has Stuart Atterton and his accomplices hijack Flight KA29 to blackmail the U.K government into releasing them.
He was portrayed by Simon McBurney.
What Makes Him Pure Evil?[]
- Being the co-leader of the Cheapside Firm, Edgar has ran rings of drug trafficking, prostitution, and illegal arms dealing.
- Edgar also sends hitmen to kill not only those who cause even the slightest bit of trouble in his plans, but also their families, including those of their own employees.
- His victims even include children, as Janssen had Neela and her family killed, and tried to have Sam Nelson's teenage son, Kai, killed.
- Furthermore, practically every hijacker on flight KA-29, including the double agents Amanda and Alec, is being coerced into their roles by Edgar & John.
- At some point, Edgar even had Stuart and Lewis' father, Peter, executed, because Peter grassed on the syndicate, which was untrue.
- Upon being arrested for his crimes, Edgar had Stuart and a few more of his agents hijack flight KA29 to demand the release of him and John.
- After being released, Janssen makes it abundantly clear from the get-go, if anyone tries to follow them or stop them, then innocent passengers will be killed.
- Janssen then threatens DI Daniel, reiterating their rules. Because they have broken their agreement, he says a passenger must now die.
- Janssen sends Stuart a message, ordering for one of the passengers to be killed and then a photograph to be sent as proof. While the victim is already dead, Janssen sends the photo to Daniel to threaten him as well as the U.K government.
- When Janssen suspects Daniel blocked the road to stop them, which is false, he orders another murder.
- After tricking the police into arresting decoys of him and John, they switch vehicles, with Janssen ordering Amanda, his double agent, to take control of the cockpit by killing the captain.
- While at a shack, watching the Kingdom Airlines' stock drop, John insists they go and update Amanda's pleas. However, Edgar insists they stay put and leave Amanda in the dark, saying they need to make some money.
- It is revealed that Edgar intends to let the plane crash into Central London, which would kill the 216 passengers on board and countless citizens in London, just so Edgar can reap every cent out of their scheme. Even John is shocked & disgusted by this, who then has Edgar killed.
Trivia[]
