That healing power could have saved so many people, but to appease mere Pokemon...?! He made the wrong choice! If I were in charge I could lead the research so much better. I am right. That's it, I just have to get the power and prove I am right! If I just get rid of the Molybdenums...
~ Dr. Zed in a video log.

Dr. Zed is the main antagonist of Pokémon the Movie: Secrets of the Jungle. He is a researcher who is obsessed with obtaining the secret of the Forest of Okoya and is Koko's archenemy.

He is voiced by Kōichi Yamadera in the Japanese version and the late Billy Kametz in the English version.

What Makes Him Pure Evil?[]

  • He told Koko that his parents, Dr. Chrom and Phossa Molybdenum both died in a car crash as an accident, but he actually purposely caused the car crash, making him the first human in the anime who has successfully murdered another human.
    • He even tried to murder their son Koko, who was a baby at the time, meaning that Zed has no problem with murdering children to get what he wants, let alone infants. He later sadistically gloats to Koko about this and tells him his parents made the wrong choice.
  • Despite Koko refusing to lead him to the Great Tree, he still placed a tracker chip on Koko without his knowledge or permission.
  • He deceived his workers into thinking they were only going to study the healing spring when he really intended to rip the energy straight from the tree, which would devastate the ecosystem and the Zarude living there. He also treats his men badly when they defy him, pushing the pilot out of a mecha without caring if he was hurt by the fall.
  • He attacks an entire Pokémon colony called the Zarude, being fully willing to kill them all in order to obtain the healing energy from the tree out of hatred for them and all other Pokémon out there.
  • He started a mass destruction across the forest, which even terrified his workers.
  • He tries to set not only the Zarude, but the rest of the Jungle Pokémon ablaze with his mecha when they fight back against him.
  • He tried to crush Koko with his mecha out of spite when his adoptive Zarude father Dada heavily damaged it, forcing the latter to sacrifice himself with Koko barely able to save his life with Jungle Healing.
  • While it’s implied he started out with good intentions as he claimed the healing energy could save countless lives, he ignores any possibility of a more peaceful solution (such as extracting the healing power from the spring without harming the tree) with his actions being more centered on his obsession with proving himself right and destroying anyone who questions him or stands in his way.
  • Even after being arrested, he can be seen scowling at the camera filming his incarceration before the doors close, showing no remorse for his crimes.
  • Due to this being a separate continuity from the main timeline, Zed easily stands out due to his crimes and resources. However, even if he was in the old one, he still would've ultimately passed due to his unique and extensive rapsheet for being one of the few villains to successfully kill human beings.
