Dr. X is the primary antagonist of American heavy metal band Queensrÿche's concept albums Operation: Mindcrime and Operation: Mindcrime II, serving as the main antagonist in the previous and as the overarching antagonist in the latter.

He was voiced by the late Anthony Valentine in the previous album and by the late Ronnie James Dio in the latter album.

What Makes Him Pure Evil?

• Dr. X used Nikki's heroin addiction and brainwashing techniques to turn the latter into an assassin who becomes X's docile puppet whenever X uses the word "mindcrime". X used this to make Nikki carry out any murder that the doctor wished.
  • While the songs and music don't specify the numbers, former Queensrÿche member, Chris DeGarmo, confirmed that the amount of people Nikki assassinated under Dr. X's orders was in dozens.
  • Additionally, in Operation: Mindcrime II, it is shown that the training to kill and powerful brainwashing that Nikki got from Dr. X still have a hold over him.
• When Nikki begins questioning the nature of what he is doing thanks to his relationship with Mary, recognizing their master's own nefarious agenda, Dr. X orders Nikki to kill Sister Mary and Father William (who had introduced Nikki to Mary) because he sees a threat in Mary to his cult of personality. When Nikki succeeds in killing only William but not Mary and decides to leave the organization, X replies by saying that the alternative is returning to his bleak life as a self-loathing but defenseless. The conflicted and uncertain Nikki leaves and returns to Mary only to find her dead, her having killed herself due to Dr. X threatening him. This incident contributed to Nikki going insane.
• Despite his claims of being dedicated to a revolution targeting the rich and powerful, Dr. X has himself become such by the time the events of Operation: Mindcrime II take place, hinting that he either is a hypocrite or has abandoned his ideals.

Trivia

• Dr. X is arguably the most evil Queensrÿche villain and the only one to be considered Pure Evil.
