Dr. Karine: You've got to be kidding me. All this fuss has been caused by a child? And he's your child. This is too good.
Dr. Orlov: Leonid, you have to run! Now!
Leonid: No, dad. I'm not leaving here without you.
Dr. Karine: You really think you are going to save your father? Kid, you're going to join him.
~ Dr. Karine attempting to feed Leonid and Dr. Boris Orlov to the Demogorgon.

Dr. Karine is the main antagonist of the 4-part comic miniseries, Stranger Things: Kamchatka, a tie-in comic to the 2016 Netflix exclusive series Stranger Things, as well as one of the two unseen overarching antagonists (alongside Neil Hargrove) of the fourth season of the series. She is an arrogant scientist working for the Soviet Union, responsible for beginning all experiments with the Demogorgons, intending to feed as many to them as she can to weaponize them and establish her scientific superiority.

What Makes Her Pure Evil?[]

  • Is the very arrogant scientist that kickstarted the Soviets use of the Demogorgons in general upon discovering a Demodog on her own. As a result, whatever heinous crime the Soviets do using them, which includes Warden Melnikov's infamously sadistic gladiator games, will all be tied back to her.
  • While showing some admiration and concern for the Demogorgon, it is only because she views it as the symbol of her scientific prowess and is only fond of the destruction he would cause as a weapon.
  • Has multiple prisoners be fed to the Demogorgon, seeing them all butchered to death while they plead for their lives with nothing more than cold-satisfaction.
  • Intends to continue feeding it humans to turn the Demogorgon into a weapon of mass destruction to be used by the Soviets.
  • Kidnaps Dr. Boris Orlov when he objected against empowering the Demogorgon and has him beaten and threatens to feed him to the Demogorgon if he refuses to cooperate, having fed another prisoner in front of him as a demonstration.
  • When Dr. Orlov sabotages the experiment, she forces him to watch his young pupil, Dr. Lem, be butchered to death by the Demogorgon as punishment.
  • When Ivan Kolochev anyway finds the device she needed, she callously attempts to feed Dr. Lem to the Demogorgon for outliving his usefulness.
  • She laughs when Orlov's young son, Leonid, swept in to save his father, attempting to feed the child to the Demorgon as well.
  • While the Mind Flayer is more heinous, she has less resources.
