Revenge is what makes a man like you exceptional.
You just don't get it, do you? I can rebuild all of this! And I'm the only one who can rebuild you! You cannot survive without me! ...Okay, fine.
~ Harting's final monologue before taking down Garrison.
Dr. Harting: Yes you did, but all that's now left is Ray Garrison.
Garrison: And that's enough.
~ Harting's final words before Garrison blows him up.

Dr. Emil Harting is the main antagonist of the 2020 superhero film Bloodshot, based on the Valiant Comics character of the same name.

He is the scientist and CEO of a technological company called Rising Spirit Technologies (or R.S.T.) with a cybernetic arm due to contracting cancer at sixteen. Harting specialized in distributing enhancements to disfigured or disabled United States military personnel, and was the doctor that revived Ray Garrison with nano-bot technology, only to eliminate his competition until his demise.

He was portrayed by Guy Pearce, who also played Charlie Rakes from Lawless and Aldrich Killian in Iron Man 3.

What Makes Him Pure Evil?[]

  • He consistently manipulated and brainwashed Ray Garrison by inserting fabricated memories into Garrison to eliminate his former associates, which was reprocessing the images of Ray's wife's murderer's face to be said associate. Once Ray accomplished his mission, he captured Ray, reset his memories and placed his target under another rival.
    • It would also mean that he is indirectly responsible for the murders of Martin Axe and Nick Baris, since they're deliberately brought in as perpetrators of Ray's life unknowingly.
    • Since Nick Baris is also an ally with Martin Axe, it also showed that he wants Ray to kill everyone who's willing to protect the rivals, and would've done so against programmer Wilfred Wigans, which accounted for indirect mass murder.
  • He wanted to make his own army out of deceased people.
  • He attempted to suffocate KT to death by remorselessly activating her breathing valve and sealing it on intent, deliberately after she refused and tried to rebel against him for persisting with the brainwash.
  • He abruptly ended the private conversation with Ray after the latter exposed him of his intentions and crimes.
  • After knowing his plan had been compromised, he sent Jimmy Dalton and Marcus Tibbs to kill him. When his right-hands are dead, he doesn't express remorse towards them (since he treated them as killing machines), and was trying to save his skin until Ray stopped the vehicle with Cyborg's detached arm.
  • On a last ditch effort, he used a grenade launcher to spitefully destroy Ray, forcing him to overclock the nanites and destroy his possibility to regenerate. He failed when Ray caught the last round with his leftover nanites, but thoughtfully succeeded in finally killing Ray after the round detonated, including himself and then in vain.

Trivia[]

  • He's the first and the only villain in the Valiant Cinematic Universe to be Pure Evil.
