Dr. Bob Frankland is the main antagonist of the episode The Hounds of Baskerville in the series Sherlock and is a minor antagonist of the same series. He is a scientist who appeared as a normal person, but he was the one who was responsible for the case of H.O.U.N.D in the first place.

He is portrayed by Clive Mantle.

What Makes Him Pure Evil?[]

  • While he was not the sole member of H.O.U.N.D who worked on the drug in the 1980s, he was the only member to continue to work on the drug, even after it was closed due to the damage that it does to those who are exposed to it.
  • He continued to test the drug on numerous victims in hopes to sell it and that it would one day work as he intends it to work, which caused severe frontal lobe damage, which broke their minds by turning them into insane and paranoid people who committed numerous amounts of crimes because of their broken minds, which gives the people who are exposed to the drug a fate worse than death itself since they are still alive to deal with their insanity.
  • When Henry's father realized what the Doctor was doing, he dosed Henry and his father with the drug while he was protected from the drug because of the hazmat suit.
  • To make things worse, he proceeded to beat Henry's father to death while having Henry believe that it was a dog that mauled his father, which permanently traumatized Henry.
  • He continued to dose Henry with the drug for the majority of his life.
  • He got away with his crimes for 25 years.
  • He gassed Sherlock and Watson, which made them hallucinate the hound, which caused them to feel a strong sense of paranoia from.
  • When he was revealed, he escaped justice by committing suicide by running onto the field of mines, indicating that he lacks any honor and remorse for any of his crimes at all.
  • Even though he is outclassed by Jim Moriarty and Culverton Smith in terms of the overall heinous standards (both of them are world-class criminals who have drugged people, including children and murdered numerous amounts people and have been highly personal threats to Sherlock's life), he outclasses both of them in terms of his low amounts of resources as he is just an everyday scientist, meaning that he is able to commit acts that are just as evil as the other Pure Evils from the series with fewer resources.
  • He is also a one-shot, which shows that even with him just being a major part of one episode, he commits some extremely heinous acts in such a short period.
