~ Dogati threatening Professor Huston. |
Dogati is the main antagonist of the 1985 action-adventure film King Solomon's Mines, a loose adaptation of H. Rider Haggard's 1885 novel of the same name.
He is a ruthless Turkish slaver who has allied with Colonel Bockner of the German Army as his mroe threatening partner to find the fabled treasure of the titular mines. Dogati is the archenemy of Alan Quartermain, hellbent in destroying him at all costs.
He was portrayed by John Rhys-Davies.
What Makes Him Pure Evil?[]
- Is a vile human trafficker who has hundreds of men, women and children kidnapped and sold as slaves for as cheap as 100 dollars. And to keep them in line, Dogati has them endure regular whipping. This disgusts both Quartermain and Jesse Huston, with the former derailing his quest briefly just to free many of Dogati's captured slaves.
- Has Professor Huston's partner, Rupert, killed through a brutal death trap.
- Kidnaps Professor Huston for constant torture, threatening to peel of his skin inch by inch if he refuses to give the location to King Solomon's mines by the time they reach Barumba.
- Whips some of his men out of frustration for their incompetence in capturing Jesse for him.
- Threatens to pluck Professor Huston apart piece by piece, refusing to let him die as freedom from this horrendous torture, if he doesn't give the mines' location. Upon having his daughter Jesse captured, Dogati gleefully threatens to put his daughter in such suffering instead, forcing the frantic Professor to reveal the truth.
- Leads the siege of a tribal village, burning down its houses while gunning down dozens of people.
- Guns down nearly all of his and Bockner's men to use their corpses as stepping stones to cross the quicksand.
- Forces Colonel Bockner to swallow the diamonds so that he can extract it upon splitting him open and killing him.
- Attempts to drag Alan Quartermain with him when the mines crumble around them.
- Despite the film's tongue-and-cheek tone, in contrast to Bockner's bumbling presence, Dogati is a fully serious threat with barely any comedy to his character.
