Otto Octavius, also known as Doctor Octopus, is the main antagonist of the second Spider-Man Noir volume.

What Makes Him Pure Evil?[]

  • As a world-renowned biologist, Otto Octavius embraced a racist and xenophobic worldview, eventually coming to join the Nazi party.
  • Aligning himself with the Friends of New Germany crime syndicate, Otto kidnapped African-American minorities in New York and turned them into mindless slaves, claiming that outright genocide would be "wasteful".
    • When his base is being raided, Dr. Connors mentions that there are "at least two dozen prisoners".
  • Brutally killed his partner, Crime Master, once he outlived his usefulness. While Crime-Master was equally despicable, if not worse, Otto's brutality makes him delusional rather than well-intended (to be fair Crime Master mocked his condition)
  • He lobotomized and permanently crippled Robbie Robertson.
  • When Spider-Man confronts him and mentions that he is going to be prosecuted and arrested, he merely laughs and mocks his enemy, showing no remorse for his actions.
  • He gets his well-deserved punishment of being rejected by Heinrich Himmler for being a disabled individual and not fit to be an official Nazi member.
  • When he returned in Spider-Verse Unlimited #41-43, he tried to get revenge on the Nazis for rejecting him by mind-controlling all of their supporters in Manhattan while at the same time attempting to get revenge on Spider-Man by framing him for a (thwarted) terrorist attack using C4. He mentions that he planned on hypnotizing Nazi supporters all over America.
  • Although he was born crippled and have to rely on his mechanical arms, also became envious towards the Africans who had more freedom than him. It does not justify his actions, since he was a horrible racist who was willing to kidnap people to be his slaves, and he absolutely destroyed any sympathy he may have had.

Trivia[]

  • The Marvel Noir version of Doctor Octopus, alongside his the Amazing Spider-Man script version, is one of the two incarnations of Doctor Octopus to be Pure Evil.
  • Doctor Octopus is, alongside the Crime Master, one of the two Marvel Noir villains to be Pure Evil.
