NOTE: This page is only about Doctor Light's Post-Crisis incarnation, as his New 52 incarnation was not voted Pure Evil, and thus only the Post-Crisis version of Doctor Light should be put here. |
“ | The heroes always talk a real good game, but when it comes to less glamorous risks--like the emotional kind--they always manage to get squeamish. I assume every one of his JLA running-buddies still aches with guilt over cracking my mind in half with their magical lobotomy. Weak-willed, hesitant hypocrites. I discovered all of their identities and raped Elongated Man's wife. And yet, they let me live. That will be a mistake they will keep regretting...more so as each of them dies. | „ |
~ Dr. Light, preparing to go on a killing spree in Speedy's school. |
Arthur Light, better known as Dr. Light or Doctor Light, is a major antagonist in the DC Universe, serving as a major antagonist in both the Justice League and Teen Titans franchises.
He is an evil genius who wields a suit that grants him vast light-manipulating abilities, using his powers for various criminal endeavors, including trying to destroy the Justice League and later their younger counterparts, the Teen Titans. Over the years, Light's constant failures would gradually reduce him to a bumbling laughingstock not taken seriously by either his enemies or his fellow villains. However, following the events of Identity Crisis, Light would be reimagined as a ruthless murderer and serial rapist, whose years of incompetence were caused by memory alterations made to him by the Justice League.
What Makes Him Pure Evil?[]
- He assaulted and raped Elongated Man's wife, Sue Dibny. He also threatened to go after the Justice League's loved ones when caught, and at one point he claimed to have more victims than just Sue, making him a serial rapist as well.
- He drains the heroic Dr. Light's powers, which, to quote the man himself, was "almost like [he] raped her" as he stripped the powers from her and absorbed them.
- He aids in Merlyn's scheme to destroy a third of Star City just to antagonize Green Arrow, even personally blowing up a building. As a result, thousands died, hundreds of thousands were injured, and nearly 38% of the population became homeless.
- During this scheme, Light massacred several people in Speedy's high school. He also sadistically made Green Arrow watch Merlyn blow up an apartment building with Green Arrow II, Speedy, and Black Lightning still inside.
- Before his gory, well-deserved death at the hands of the Spectre, Light was planning to have a rape orgy with a group of girls dressed as female members of the Teen Titans.
Trivia[]
- Dr. Light did not start off as Pure Evil, as he was mainly just a joke villain. It wasn't until Identity Crisis retconned him into a rapist (while also revealing he was only ever a joke villain because of Zatanna's magical lobotomy) that he became a full-on disgusting monster. It's since been the norm for his portrayal, at least in the Post-Crisis era.
- The New 52 version of Doctor Light is not Pure Evil, because he loves his family, and his powers make him more the victim of a tragic accident than anything else.
- The 2003 TV show version is not considered Pure Evil due to his murders relying on fridge horror and being comedic.
