Victor Von Doom, also known as Doctor Doom, is the main antagonist of the 2005 superhero film Fantastic Four and the secondary antagonist of its 2007 sequel Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer.
He is the CEO of Von Doom Industries, Reed Richard's brilliant but conceited former classmate turned arch-nemesis and the primary foil of the Fantastic Four. He tries to defeat the Fantastic Four and later, with the Silver Surfer's arrival, wants to get the Surfer's cosmic board for his own plans.
He was portrayed by Julian McMahon.
What Makes Him Pure Evil?[]
In General[]
- While he was romantically involved with Susan Storm, sending her flowers while she was bedridden from the accident, it was never genuine as he tried to kill her and her brother and mortally wounded her in the sequel. This implies he only ever saw her as a trophy and object to his success and a way to spite Reed.
Fantastic Four (2005)[]
- When Victor and his colleagues, Reed Richards, Johnny and Sue Storm, and Ben Grimm, all get exposed to a cosmic cloud during thier expedition in space, he prompts to try to leave his friends behind to save himself showing he never had true care for them.
- When his doctor believes Victor's condition could be contagious and cause an epidemic, Victor selfishly demands the doctor to keep it a secret as to not ruin his life. After the doctor refuses due to a possible public risk, Victor kills him to hide his secret.
- Kills his business partner, Ned Cecil, by shooting electricity through his body for selling his company.
- Wanted to kill Reed for everything that happened to him, despite it being an accident.
- Puts a strain on Ben and Reed's relationship to use Ben for his own needs by telling him Reed never intended on curing him.
- Promises to cure Ben of his rock-like appearance and powers with a machine Reed built. Upon doing so he absorbs the electricity from the device for power and knocks Ben out because he no longer needs him.
- Although he didn't kill Ben, it was because Doom arrogantly believed Ben was no longer a threat to his plans rather than out of mercy.
- Attempted to kill Johnny Storm with a heat-seeking missile.
- Kidnapped Reed and slowly tried to freeze him to death by hooking him to a supercooling unit.
- Tries to kill the Fantastic Four by the end of the film, but ends up being frozen by them in place.
Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer[]
- When he returns, he seems to partner up with the Fantastic Four to go against the Silver Surfer, but it was later revealed to be a ploy to steal the Surfer's board-which gives him new powers.
- Murders several military soldiers after he steals the Surfer's board.
- Refuses to listen to the Fantastic Four when they try to convince him that returning the board to the Silver Surfer is the only means to lead Galactus away from Earth, despite the fact that this would result in his planet's destruction.
- Sends a spear made from the Surfer's board to kill the Surfer, but ends up stabbing Sue instead, nearly killing her.
- In the novelization by Daniel Josephs, Doom laughs as Galactus begins to kill several innocent civilians-claiming he no longer needs Earth. He also intends to use the Surfer's board to fly into space to become a god over other planets.
Trivia[]
- Doctor Doom is, alongside Starscream and Sentinel Prime, one of three Pure Evil villains from Peter David to also be Pure Evil in the films they appear due to their novelizations increasing their evilness. This is also the only incarnation of Doctor Doom to be Pure Evil.
- Additionally, he is the only (so far) known Pure Evil villain from a novelization written by Peter David who also appears in the novelization of another writer, that being Daniel Josephs, who wrote the novelization of Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer, the sequel to the first Fantastic Four film.
