I think I'll dismember the world and then I'll dance in the wreckage.
~ Doctor Destiny

John Dee, best known as Doctor Destiny, is a supervillain in DC comics. He is a rogue enemy of the Justice League, The Sandman, and Batman. He has the power of dream manipulation, making his dreams reality while also being able to invade others' dreams.

What Makes Him Pure Evil?[]

  • One time, after breaking out of Arkham Asylum, he ungratefully shot and killed an innocent woman, Rosemary, after she gave him a coat and drove in her car.
  • He spends 24 hours in a diner, using the Dreamstone to sadistically manipulate people's minds in their dreams, particularly the six people (Bette, Marsh, Garry, Kate, Judy, and Mark) currently inside said diner, enjoying himself the whole time. For details:
    • On hour 4, he has a kid's TV show host give the audience advice on how to commit suicide: slit down the wrist, not across.
    • On hours 7 and 8, he invades the diner's customers' minds as they dream about their deepest, darkest desires (only to take them away after, of course). He also has Marsh dream about drinking himself to death.
    • On hour 9, he starts a fight between Judy and Marsh over the former's lesbianism.
    • On hour 10, he has the diner's customers worship him as a god and drink blood from Mark's self-amputated finger.
    • On hour 11, he's now managed to spread the influence of his powers throughout the entire world, causing madness (i.e. people falling asleep on freeways, planes crashing, and botched surgeries) everywhere.
    • On hour 12, he makes a reluctant Kate admit to committing necrophilia when she was a drunk 18-year-old.
    • On hour 13, he makes all the customers have sex with each other, likely in the real world (since Judy is shown shirtless during the rest of the story).
    • On hour 14, he has Judy, Kate, and Bette possessed by supernatural oracles, demanding they tell him his future.
    • On hour 15, he gives the customers back their own minds just long enough to realize their current situation before he pulls them back in, telling them he's only torturing them because he can.
    • On hour 16, he plays a deadly game of Marco Polo with the customers in the dark.
    • On hour 17, he makes Marsh tell Bette (whom he had an affair with, thus causing his wife to drink herself to death) that he paid her son cigarettes to have sex with him while in prison. He also has three nails hammered into Marsh's hand on the diner table, killing him.
    • On hour 18, he basically renders the customers' minds into those of lions, resulting in Garry fighting and mauling Mark to death.
    • On hour 19, he tells the customers the fairytale of Snow White and the Seven Dwarves, with them listening in childlike awe.
    • On hour 20, he makes Judy, Kate, and Bette sing "Spread a Little Happiness".
    • On hour 21, he makes Judy stab herself in the eyes with sewing needles to "show her the glorious delights of belief".
    • By hour 22, everyone in the diner is dead except for Destiny himself.
  • He wants to kill Dream of the Endless/Morpheus in order to take over the dream world.

Trivia[]

  • Apart from his DCAU and animated movie counterparts, this is one of the only three versions of Doctor Destiny to be Pure Evil.
