Dix Perdix, also known as Hazer, is a major antagonist in the light novel/anime series Is it Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon? (or most commonly known as Danmachi). He is the leader of the Ikelos Familia and a sadistic poacher who hunts Xenos and sells them for the sake of ridding away his curse.
He is voiced by Daisuke Namikawa in the Japanese dub and Kyle Jones in the English dub.
What Makes Him Pure Evil?[]
- He is a sadistic and racist poacher who loves to inflict pain to sapient monsters called Xenos, torturing them in the worst ways possible in order to see the despair and crying faces in their eyes. He was also willing to sell them off for profit to his clients, rarely nobles at best.
- He was rather abusive and uncaring to his comrades of the Ikelos Familia, including to Gran. He was even willing to have them killed regardless and even use them as bait.
- He was willing to kill and hurt Wiene, whose likely a child and did not care if she was.
- He kicked the cage of a crying Xenos he presumably tortured and had Gran to shut it up before attempting to use him as monster bait.
- He tortured a Harpy Xenos to death and used it as bait to lure the remaining Xenos and Wiene to a trap.
- After capturing the remaining Xenos and Wiene, alongside an injured Ranye. He was about to kill her before his men negotiated him to let them do what they want to her, Dix allowed it and given the expressions they placed on Ranye, it is likely that he allowed them to perform acts of advantage to her. In other words, he condoned his men to gang rape her, if that were possible, this could make him much more worse.
- He smirked at Ranye's suicide and prepares to torture the captured Xenos and Wiene.
- He presumably tortured Wiene and then kept her imprisoned for now.
- When Bell and Fels entered their base, he used his ability Phobetor Daedalus to brainwash the Xenos into going berserk. Forcing them to fight one another as a way to have Bell and Fels killed.
- Sadistically tormented and nearly killed Bell in their fight.
- Attempted to force Bell to accept that monsters mean nothing by forcibly transformed a tortured Wiene into her true, monstrous form. Forcing Bell to fight her in the process.
- When he failed to bring Bell "back to his senses", he prepares to kill him for "boring him".
- He controlled and gaslighted the transformed Wiene using illusions of Bell to lead her out into the opening using her forehead gem.
- This action is a very impactful one, because of leading her outside towards multiple adventurers, including the Loki Familia, to hunt her down, it also led to exposing the Xenos. This act resulted in a race war between humans and Xenos alike, forever severing the Xenos' chances for peace and coexistence with the humans.
- This also led to gaslighting Bell from his words about the Xenos, forced him to protect the transformed Wiene to the public, but also to the Lok Familia, even Ais, that cost Bell his reputation for protecting a monster before their eyes.
- Even after his death, his intent to murder Wiene was succeeded indirectly by Gran's hands.
- Although she was revived by Fels, it only cost her any chances of befriending other humans besides Bell and Ais (who was difficult to convince not all "monsters" are what they seemed to be).
- His actions ultimately led to cutting off the chances for the humans and Xenos to ever make co-existence and most of their groups almost lessen to near extinction because of him.
- Despite Ishtar and Phryne's crimes are utmost more horrible (involving sexual-related crimes) than his, much to the standards. Dix manages to stand out due to his resources and is just as dangerous as Ishtar was for being a Goddess, but in addition, he is one of the only few mass murderers in the series. Also unlike Ishtar, who ultimately failed all her goals and did not have much impact despite what she did to Haruhime, Dix's actions to the impact of the series are much bigger and more serious, including that he manages to succeed them posthumously and indirectly, making him just as more heinous to stand out enough.
- Although he has a Freudian Excuse where he was forced to continue working on his ancestor's project within the dungeon due to his curse that led him to become the insane, sadistic poacher he was, this does not ultimately excuse him for how horrible his crimes were.
- First off, Dix wanted to get rid of the curse because he grew tired of working on the project and chose to become insane on his own accord if it meant getting rid of its commands that led him to kill off non-sentient monsters in the dungeon before discovering the Xenos.
- Second, his ancestors also suffered the same way as he did while working within the Dungeon. Yet, none of them turned out as he did despite they too being insane from the curse.
- Third, instead of getting real help from others to evade his curse, he chose to take out his problems against them, including the very species that led him to become depravingly sadistic without any remorse or regards, even his own Familia.
- The excuse itself is not meant to sympathize with Dix's curse as he chose to do what he did, even Bell pointed out he committed horrible atrocities towards the Xenos and even to Wiene for "something that stupid".
- Overall, Dix's curse is nothing more than a mere petty excuse that turned him worse after discovering the Xenos. He was no better than anyone else around him as he himself was more of a "monster" as the Xenos "were".
- Despite becoming insane, Dix still possesses moral agency since most of the time he remains calm and laid-back, also being completely aware of his actions yet taking great pleasure from it.
- Despite joining Ikelos and his Familia and acted humbly towards him. It's clear he does not care about him as he only used this position given to him as an advantage to his desires of harming more Xenos.
- He had a brother named Barca Perdix, though the relationship between them is not clear. But given Barca's personal opinion on his brother's actions, it is highly unlikely of Dix to care for Barca back.
Trivia[]
- He, alongside Ishtar & Kaguya Ray Peram Westcott, are the only three Danmachi villains to be Pure Evil.
