“ | But don't worry, I've forgiven you. After all, being part of your club is the reason she's gotten her hopes up so high. She'll drop into the deepest despair imaginable once I've killed her friends in front of her very eyes. Asia is still a virgin, isn't she? I don't want the Red Dragon Emperor's sloppy seconds. I do rather enjoy the idea of stealing her away from you, though. Our own custom version of prima nocta. I must admit; the mere thought of taking Asia as she calls out your name is absolutely delicious! | „ |
~ Diodora expressing his sadism to the Occult Club. |
Diodora Astaroth is a major antagonist in the light novel and anime series High School DxD, serving as the secondary antagonist of Volume 6.
He was the former supposed heir of the Astaroth Clan until he betrayed his family and kind when he sided with the Khaos Brigade. He was the younger brother of Ajuka Beelzebub, and the mastermind responsible for Asia Argento's excommunication from her church. He is also the self-proclaimed love rival and foremost enemy of Issei Hyoudou for kidnapping and harassing Asia.
He was voiced by Makoto Furakawa in the original Japanese and Aaron Dismuke in the English dub.
What Makes Him Pure Evil?[]
In General[]
- He had a perverted obsession with nuns and maidens. This helps exemplify that any love or affableness he shows to Asia is purely in order to manipulate her into falling in love with him so she can be added to his collection.
- His actions have earned him the hatred of several other demons who were only unable to eliminate him due to his aristocratic status.
- Despite having zero direct kills onscreen, he stands out as the most personal and heinous enemy of Issei due to being the only one to achieve committing a full-scale rape compared to other villains who made an attempt at rape like Freed Sellzen. Also, unlike some of the villains (such as Cao Cao), he has lacked any excuse or any certain redeeming qualities as he committed his actions for the sole purpose of his perverted desires.
- Unlike many demons, he is a complete coward and hypocrite with no sense of honor who is absolutely not above resorting to sabotage and cheating to winning his fights, then resorting to a childish tantrum should his plans fail.
- Held no loyalty to his master, Shalba since he was willing to disobey his orders by using the Ophis snake. While he did get manipulated into joining his conspiracy and killed by him for his failures, it was absolutely deserved since he only allied with them for his selfish desires and committed horrible crimes that disgusted even Shalba himself.
- While he does view his family in high regards, there is no sign he actually cares for them and only uses his name to arrogantly flaunt his status. Furthermore, he is willing to betray them for power and his actions had a posthumous result, since for what he did to Asia, Issei, Rias and her peerage, and for siding with the Khaos Brigade, his family, the Astaroth Clan was condemned for what he did, losing many of their privileges. His former position as the heir of the Astaroth was passed down to his niece, Latia Astaroth.
- He shows full awareness that he is evil as he sadistically enjoys bragging about the crimes he has committed and plans to commit. He doesn't deny Rias's accusation of him being a disgusting monster.
Past[]
- He would deceive at least 16 nuns by luring them in with sweet talk while having them banished from their respective churches and rape them to further their despair. After he was done taking advantage of them, he would reincarnate them into devils to be a part of his peerage (or in other words, have them pledge their loyalty to him as his slaves).
- He tricked Asia into healing him as he purposely wounded himself for the sake of adding her to his collection. This later results in Asia being banished from her church, making Diodora indirectly responsible for her fate and death under Raynare. Although he did plan to save her and kill Raynare himself, he only does it for the sake of manipulating her until he made a grave mistake in underestimating Issei as he continued watching.
- He ultimately betrayed his family to join the Khaos Brigade terrorist organization for power as he received a snake from Ophis, which despite being ordered not to use, he would do so too cheat in his rating game against Seekvaria Agares.
- He was complicit in causing the death of the next head of the Glasya-Labolas clan, which was framed as an accident.
High School DxD: Born[]
- He stalked Asia and attempted to get her to fall for him through numerous methods like:
- Proposing to her right in front of Issei.
- Sending her numerous invitations and gifts (including car keys) just to have her affection for him, making her rather uncomfortable with it.
- Attempted to negotiate Rias into trading bishops to get Asia into his collection of nuns and maidens. However, this led to revealing his true nature right in front of her when he ridiculed Issei for being a "dragon".
- He sabotaged the Rating Game match between him and Rias, just so he could snatch Asia away from Issei and the rest in a rather perverted manner while having his peerage fight against them. He also brainwashed them through a spell just to take advantage of Issei's Dress Break ability, bragging about how he took away any feelings of shame or modesty from them.
- He allowed Freed to eat and kill two of his knights just so he could mutate into a chimera from it and attack them.
- When he's confronted by Issei and his group, he had Asia tied up and told everybody the truth of Asia's banishment out of spite, just so he could sadistically laugh at her despair. He would them attempt to murder them all just to crush Asia's hope as he thought about raping her while she called out Issei's name.
- This kind of action earned Issei's hatred for him to the point everyone in the room, including Rias and Ddraig, would allow him to give Diodora his comeuppance.
- After he was defeated, he showed no remorse for any of his actions and spitefully reveals that the trap Asia was put in actually had an absorbing device that would have stripped Asia of her life force in case he lost. This action of his definitely proved how much he always saw Asia as nothing more than an object and a "property of his", to the point where if he couldn’t have her, no one should have.
- After Asia was freed, he attempted to goad Shalba to work with him and team up to kill the party.
Trivia[]
- So far, he and Freed Sellzen are the only High School DxD villains to be considered Pure Evil.
- He is the only version of Astaroth to be Pure Evil.
