Dimentio is one of the two main antagonists (alongside Count Bleck) of the 2007 video game Super Paper Mario.
He initially started out as a minion seemingly loyal to Count Bleck however, as the game processes, he makes it clear that he plans on betraying him so that he could use the Chaos Heart for himself in order to destroy all worlds and recreate them in his own image.
What Makes Him Pure Evil?
- While he saved Peach from being brainwashed, it was for pragmatic reasons since he intentionally did not do the same for Luigi, allowing Nastasia to brainwash him to become Mr. L. Because of this, Luigi was ordered to kill his friends while not knowing about them and his true self, as a result not joining Mario, Peach and Bowser until Chapter 7, wherein Dimentio actually decided to “free” him.
- In his first major encounter, he brainwashed Fracktail, an otherwise benevolent guardian of a Pure Heart who was willing to let Mario pass with no trouble after verifying him as the prophesied hero, to make him attack and try to eat Mario (which forced him to fight him and resulted in him being destroyed) all for his amusement.
- While he acts polite to the heroes when he encounters them in Chapter 3, this is part of his plan to manipulate them.
- Halfway in the game during chapter 5, he tested if a Floro Sprout (the presumed parasitic young of the Floro Sapiens) can zombify anything other than a Cragnon by implanting it in O'Chunks, who at that point is his co-minion, which temporarily turned him into a mindless vegetable.
- In Chapter 6, after the second defeat of Mr. L, he betrayed him by sending him to the Underwhere simply because Mr. L had no more use to him having worn out his last chance.
- He sent Mario, Luigi (while still brainwashed), Peach, and Bowser to the Underwhere seemingly killing them, where the unrighteous souls of those whose "games are over" spend eternity, as part of his plan to defeat Count Bleck.
- While Jaydes does tell Mario and Luigi that their game was not over, this was a breaking-the-fourth-wall moment as she was specifically saying "Super Paper Mario isn't over" and not "Mario and Luigi are still alive."
- He saw Bleck's feelings for Tippi/Timpani only as a weakness to be exploited, which he did by confirming to Bleck that Tippi was indeed Timpani so that he'd be emotionally weaker by the time they arrived to stop him, and therefore, easier to defeat.
- He lied to the heroes by saying that Bleck meant to destroy and recreate the multiverse, which was actually his own intention, and that he joined him in order to save the day as a ploy to have them brainwashed and under his control. He also lied that he'll give them a special power to defeat Count Bleck, when in reality, he had been planning to brainwash them with Floro Sprouts as he did with O'Chunks earlier on.
- When Luigi was about to defeat him, he captured him and then attempted to kill him. Thankfully, Luigi survived the explosions.
- After Count Bleck lost to the heroes, he tried to finish him off in his weakened state with a magic projectile, which Nastasia intercepted to protect him, which initially seemed to mortally wound her in his place. He mocked this by saying it was an "adorably hopeless gesture".
- Once he obtained the Chaos Heart, he revealed his true colors as he intended to destroy the multiverse, meaning the murder of an unfathomable amount of lives, for the purpose of making "new ones". Even Bowser, the series' main villain, showed disgust for his actions and was against the idea of destroying worlds saying that his actions were overkill.
- He transported Count Bleck, Timpani, and Nastasia to his own dimension with the implicit intent of torturing them to death after he's finished, as demonstrated by his declaration to Bleck that "he'll squeeze the life out of him later".
- He brainwashed Luigi again to become Mr. L, then he fused with him and the Chaos Heart to become Super Dimentio.
- When Mario, Peach and Bowser seemed to not have enough power to even hurt Super Dimentio, he then started the process of the destruction of the multiverse.
- As shown by the fear from the denizens of the other dimensions as well as the clattering from the destruction of Chapter 6, Dimentio’s method of erasing is well implied to not be painless by any means.
- After he was defeated, instead of graciously accepting it, he planted a part of his power inside the Chaos Heart so it will destroy the multiverse out of petty spite, leading to the sacrifice of Bleck and Tippi.
- Even after his demise, his actions leave terrible everlasting impacts following the story. Fracktail remains destroyed and Tippi is no longer with the party due to her sacrifice.
- The sacrifice Bleck and Tippi had to make also clearly leaves Nastasia devastated by her own loss.
- Even though other villains in the Mario franchise wished to take over the world (or at least the Mushroom Kingdom), they were not willing to destroy it in order to do so. By comparison, Dimentio destroyed numerous dimensions while using the Chaos Heart so he could remake them to his liking, and tried to wipe out all worlds out of spite for being defeated.
- Even though he has many comedic moments, they do not detract from his heinousness. In fact, in some cases they either emphasize his cruelty or are part of his façade.
- It's implied that he might have created the Dark Prognosticus as, according to Carson, his name is inside which would make him responsible for all of Count Bleck's misdeeds and further cementing his status as the main antagonist.
- Unlike his associates and employers, who all redeem themselves and have sympathetic traits in some way, Dimentio has none of it since he's never played for sympathy at all and clearly has no redeeming qualities, especially with how he appears to become more sadistic as the story progresses. Also, unlike the others, he approached Bleck on his own accord and joined him from the start with the intent of eventually betraying him for his own purposes. For this reason, he does not have a happy ending like all the other members of Count Bleck’s crew do.
