~ Momin to Darth Vader. |
Darth Momin, best known as simply Momin, is a major antagonist in the Star Wars franchise, serving as the final antagonist of the 2017-2018 comic book series Star Wars: Darth Vader: Dark Lord of the Sith and a posthumous antagonist in other spin-off comics, specifically the Star Wars: Lando and the Star Wars: Crimson Reign series.
He is an ancient Sith Lord who was considered a heretic even by his own order for liking to create rather than destroy, feeling that the Sith Lords should serve the Dark Side of the Force instead of using it for their own ends. Centuries ago, Momin died in one of his darkest projects, but his spirit lived on through his helmet, allowing him to survive into the Imperial Era and assist Darth Vader in his plans.
What Makes Him Pure Evil?[]
- Murdered his father's rada-cat Flitta when he was a boy, gutting it to use its organs and corpse to make a horrifying sculpture of his liking.
- Fashioned up a sculpture with corpses of animals and possibly people in hopes of making an "artwork" worthy of the Dark Side of the Force, even displaying it to the public.
- Jealously killed his master Darth Shaa despite her being the one who freed him from his homeworld's jail, all because he detested her considering him her pupil.
- Built the Fermata Cage, which was eventually used to trap a female Sith Lord inside it, leaving her trapped for centuries.
- Created a superweapon capable of freezing everyone and trapping their expressions of horror, pain and even their screams slowly and torturingly for all eternity, intending to use it on a city he and his acolytes decided to target.
- Though the Jedi came to the rescue, Momin still had time to activate his superweapon and killed billions of the city's inhabitants, though he didn't get to pour the Force into his creation's engine to perpetually torture the unfortunate souls he wished to claim, karmically incinerating himself in the process.
- In spite of spending millenia trapped in spirit form inside his mask, Momin all but deserved it for all the brutal things he did in life.
- Possessed some of Darth Vader's Imperial assistants in Mustafar before trying to possess the modern Sith Lord to resume his plans, though Vader successfully repelled him.
- Accepted to design a fortress for Vader in his image and a portal to the Dark Side of the Force through the Dark Side Nexus within Mustafar to give Vader a futile attempt to save his beloved wife Padmé Amidala, but Momin built it out of pragmatism, as he actually intended to use the portal for his own ends.
- It should be noted that every time Momin offered Vader a design for Fortress Vader that ended up failing, Vader would execute his hosts, who were either Imperial personnel, Mustafarian fauna or even the planet's local species, leading to the deaths of eight individuals for the failed designs Momin came up with before succeeding with his ninth one. Even though Vader killed them without Momin inciting him, Momin shows zero remorse for the individuals he possessed and ultimately wasted.
- Opens the portal to the Dark Side of the Force while Vader engages in a battle with some rebellious Mustafarians, using a ritual to bring his physical body back into existence from it, after which he ruthlessly executes his host body even though he no longer had any use of it and could have just left his host alone.
- Tries to kill a weakened Darth Vader after barely winning the battle for "disrespecting" the Dark Side of the Force, taunting him on how he was unable to save his own wife before a fed up Vader finally crushes him to death.
- Vader's subsequent failure in saving Padmé from inside the portal would lead him into officially renouncing to his former identity as Anakin Skywalker and fully committing himself to the Sith cause as Darth Sidious's Sith apprentice, indirectly making Momin responsible for ending any chances Vader still had to turn his back on his master early on before more damage could be done, leading to two decades of death and darkness.
- Not all his dark essence dissipated after his death, with a small amount of it remaining within his mask, leading the mask to corrupt two of Lando Calrissian's friends years ago while Lando infiltrated Palpatine's yacht the Imperiales, forcing Calrissian to kill his friends. Momin also leaked some of his dark powers in Fortress Vader's bottom, leading an echo of his spirit to haunt anyone who visited that zone of the fortress, such as the Knights of Ren during the Galactic Civil War.
- Despite the massive Heinous Standards the galaxy far, far away has, Momin's acts of brutally killing living beings to fashion sculptures with their corpses and his attempt to place the citizens of a whole city in a fate worse than death to make a grotesque artwork worthy of the Dark Side of the Force are unique even for the Sith.
Trivia[]
- It's theorized that Momin's spiritual survival to his physical death may have later inspired Darth Sidious into learning the Sith techniques to enable his return in the Star Wars sequel trilogy. If this were confirmed, it would make Momin even worse.
- He is the second Sith Lord to be Pure Evil, the first being Darth Sidious, and the third being Darth Krayt (only in Legends).
