NOTE: This page is only about the Snyder Cut incarnation of Darkseid as his original unseen theatrical film incarnation was not voted Pure Evil, and thus only the Snyder Cut version of Darkseid's info and crimes should be put here. |
“ | I have turned one hundred-thousand worlds to dust looking for Anti-Life. Looking for those who robbed me of my glory. I will stride across their bones and bask in the glow of Anti-Life. And all of existence shall be mine. | „ |
~ Darkseid to Steppenwolf. |
“ | Anti-Life is found, DeSaad. And we will stop at nothing to possess it. Ready the armada. We will use the old ways. | „ |
~ Darkseid ordering another invasion of Earth to take the Anti-Life Equation. |
Darkseid, born as Uxas, is the overarching antagonist of the 2021 DC Extended Universe superhero film Zack Snyder's Justice League, the director's cut of the 2017 film.
He is an ancient and all-powerful cosmic warlord and the arch-nemesis of the Justice League who reigns over the New God planet of Apokolips and desires to rule the multiverse with the Anti-Life Equation. After he invaded Earth thousands of years ago in which the planet contained the Anti-Life Equation, he was beaten and lost the three Mother Boxes used in the invasion in his retreat.
He then tasked Steppenwolf, his exiled herald and uncle, to retrieve the boxes and finally take over Earth after Superman's death. In a potential dark future known as the Knightmare, Darkseid was successful in activating the Anti-Life Equation, using it to corrupt Superman after killing Lois Lane and proceeds to turn the Earth into a hellish wasteland.
He was portrayed by Ray Porter.
What Makes Him Pure Evil?[]
- Intends to find the Anti-Life equation so he can enslave all life in the entire multiverse by killing the personalities and minds of all living creatures and forcing them to be his slaves forever.
- Invaded Earth thousands of years ago and tried to conquer it.
- Once the defenders of Earth resisted him, he tried to scorch the entire planet with the three Mother Boxes.
- In the battle, he kills numerous defenders of the planet, including the Green Lantern, Yalan Gur, by cutting off his hand before stabbing him through the chest.
- He exiled Steppenwolf for attempting to seize the throne, despite Steppenwolf genuinely expressing his remorse for his mistake.
- He then told Steppenwolf that he would only allow him back to Apokolips when he successfully conquered hundreds of thousands worlds for him to enslave.
- Destroyed 100,000 worlds looking for the Anti-Life Equation, killing most of the population while enslaving and genetically converting the rest into Parademons. He then forces them to be his slaves and transforms their planets into a new Apokolips.
- What's worse, it's stated the inhabitants are turned into soulless slaves aware but without freedom. Condemning countless to a fate worse than death.
- While his actions of destroying at least one world aren't shown onscreen, the Parademons, him attempting to conquer and scorch Earth as well as looking for the Anti-Life Equation are shown onscreen, and are enough to establish a pattern to not make it off-screen villainy.
- Ordered Steppenwolf to scorch all of Earth by forming the Mother Boxes to synchronize the Unity in order to get his position back and be allowed to return to Apokolips.
- Steppenwolf even briefly succeeded in this, killing the Justice League before Flash reversed time.
- Although his offer to reinstate Steppenwolf's position may seem like a kind act, once Steppenwolf was beheaded, he coldly crushed his uncle's head with his foot and agreed DeSaad was right in telling him Steppenwolf would fail, shedding that potential redeeming quality.
- Also, there is no guarantee that Darkseid would've fulfilled his offer to Steppenwolf even if he had succeeded.
- In the Knightmare Future, which the Justice League are trying to prevent, he does the following:
- Kills Lois Lane and corrupts a grieving Superman, using the Anti-Life Equation, into his own soldier while manipulating him into believing Batman is at fault for her death.
- Kills Wonder Woman in the future.
- While he does attend her cremation, it is obvious it is Darkseid's unique way of disrespecting his fallen enemies and their allies rather than honor itself, that too, the bigger reason was for him to corrupt them using the Equation.
- Slaughters his way through Atlantis before killing Vulko and even Aquaman himself.
- Killed most of the population of Earth and the heroes defending it, including Green Lanterns such as Kilowog, and turned the entire planet into a hellish wasteland. He has Superman hunt down and kill any survivors left on the planet.
- Makes a big impact, despite the short amount of screen time he has, as he is responsible for all of Steppenwolf's actions due to banishing him and he has a clear cut personality, with his quest to find the Anti-Life equation to enslave all life in the multiverse, rendering him qualified to be Pure Evil.
Trivia[]
- Only the Snyder Cut version of Darkseid can be considered Pure Evil, while his original theatrical film version can't because he doesn't appear in it despite being behind Steppenwolf's previous invasion to which he badly lost, leading to Darkseid exiling him and him trying to reconquer Earth to restore his glory.
- Because of this, both he and the live-action incarnation of Lockdown are two peculiar cases of Preserved Pure Evil villains that are considered as such in the non-original version of the work they appear: all the other Preserved Pure Evils on this wiki comes from the original version of the works.
