Horrific as it may sound, there are two of them now.
~ A space pirate log referring to Dark Samus' arrival.

Dark Samus is the secondary antagonist of the Metroid franchise serving as the main antagonist of the Metroid Prime trilogy.

She is the reborn form of the Phazon-mutated Metroid Prime, who takes on the appearance of Samus Aran after fusing with the bounty hunter's Phazon Suit. Upon gaining sapience, Dark Samus begins scouring the cosmos in search of Phazon to increase her power and subjugate the entire universe.

What Makes Her Pure Evil?[]

  • Attempts to spread Phazon everywhere in the entire galaxy, which can severely damage and mutate the galaxy.
  • On Dark Aether, she attacks and attempts to kill whoever gets in her way of obtaining Phazon, including Samus, Space Pirates and Ing.
  • Repeatedly attempts to kill Samus, even on Dark Aether prior to its imminent explosion (in less than seven minutes).
  • Takes over the Space Pirates and forces them to worship her as a god.
  • Commits a terrorist attack on the G.F.S. Valhalla, killing everyone on board, so that she could steal Aurora Unit 313 to control Phaaze and conquer the universe.
  • Corrupts Aurora Unit 313 and then uses it to corrupt Aurora Unit 242 and 217 using the Corruption virus.
  • Directs a Leviathan from Phaaze to crash onto three planets: Bryyo, Elysia and the Pirate Homeworld. This leads to their corruption and global massive damage from Phazon exposure, and also damage from the Leviathan collision.
  • Attempts to do the same thing with Norion.
  • Personally confronts and beats Samus, Rundas, Ghor and Gandrayda to unconsciousness and corrupts them in the process, with Ghor, Gandrayda and possibly Rundas becoming terminally corrupted.
    • This leads to Ghor's, Gandrayda's and Rundas' (at least partial) loss of free will and interferring with Samus' goals to remove the Phazon corruption. In retaliation, Samus is forced to battle them, leading to their subsequent deaths from a wraith-like Dark Samus.
    • This also leads to Samus nearly becoming terminally corrupted herself and multiple on-screen moments of pain whilst her Phazon corruption increases.
  • Unlike her previous form Metroid Prime, Dark Samus has evolved sentience. She commits act of her own will beyond her instinctual hunt for Phazon and is capable of complex long-term planning, showing that she has a clear moral agency.

Trivia[]

  • Dark Samus and Ridley are the only Pure Evils that are playable in the Super Smash Bros. series (Ganondorf doesn't count as only his Manga version and his latest incarnation are PE instead of the versions that are in the Super Smash Bros. series). Interestingly enough, both come from the Metroid series and debuted in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
    • Likewise, she, along with Andross, Ghirahim and Mother Brain, are the only four assist trophies in Super Smash Bros. games to be Pure Evil.
