“ | Cutting into the flesh, altering the genetic code, twisting and changing...it's enough to make your mouth water, wouldn't you agree? Doing it to another is...exquisite. But doing it to oneself, now, there lies something truly extraordinary. Oh, don't give me that look. I know all about your past, pumpkin bombs and all. But you needn't worry. ~ Dark Beast |
Henry McCoy, also known as Dark Beast, is a villain in the X-Men comic series originating from the Age of Apocalypse universe. He is a much more sadistic and monstrous version of Beast from an alternate reality who later end up in the main Marvel universe. He acts as a dark mirror to the heroic Beast, possessing his intellect and abilities but none of his redeeming qualities. He was also a former apprentice of Mister Sinister.
What Makes Him Pure Evil?[]
- In his universe, Henry McCoy was a mad scientist who worked with Mister Sinister as his apprentice in his breeding pens. Intending to breed more powerful and stronger mutants for Apocalypse's darwinistic ideologies, taking sadistic delight in experimenting on his subjects along with causing pain and cruelty in his experiments.
- Due to his horrific experiments and sadism, he was nicknamed "Beast", and experimented on himself to make himself look further like the very monster people accused him of. Showing that he's fully aware of his own depravity and takes pride in his nature.
- He had those who fail his experiments tossed in to become genetic stew for Apocalypse's own army called the Infinites.
- He turned the Power siblings into hideous monsters by merging them together. He also transformed Nemesis into Holocaust as a jab to Magneto who defeated Nemesis previously.
- Entered the main Marvel universe where he stole equipment from Mister Sinister to create the Morlocks, mutants who lived in misery due to their appearance, which Mister Sinister consider this plagiarism to his work. This led to Mister Sinister enacting the infamous massacre of the Morlocks.
- Kidnapped Beast and imprisoned him behind a break wall. He infiltrated the X-Men and killed many of Beast's childhood friends and teachers.
- Killed a civilian out of frustration that he couldn't kill his own parents (due to a brief moment of showing morality), just to prove he's still the Beast everyone reviled him of being.
- Joined Onslaught during the Onslaught Saga, Onslaught learned of his reality and decided to wipe out both humans and mutants which caused the lives of the Fantastic Four and the Avengers.
- After the war with Onslaught, he lead his own Brotherhood of Mutants and attempted to capture and experiment on Generation X on several occasions.
- Even his pursuit of something good to do, he still shows his utter lack of morals in doing so. He poisons a boy as a quick science experiment, and took the dying boy to his house and plans to poison a girl next.
- After those events, Dark Beasts began another mad experiment involving trying to turn people into humanoid lizards by targeting victims of abuse and bullying as test subjects with the help from Spider-Man for the Lizard.
- Shows no care for his parents from the main Marvel universe, showing anger when he can't kill them and thought it was a sign of weakness and was willing to ally himself with world destroying villains for his goals.
- His partnership with Sugar Man is nothing but pragmatic, and is disgusted by Sugar Man simply due to how homicidal he is not because he cares for his victims or anything. Bordering this as nothing more than self preservation than anything.
- Unlike the heroic Beast, he lacks any of his heroic traits and redeeming qualities and is a more completely monstrous counterpart who willingly mutated himself into a monster as he enjoyed his reputation.
Trivia[]
- He along with Sugar Man are the only X-Men villain stemming from the Age of Apocalypse universe to be Pure Evil.
