Dr. Daisuke Matoba is the secondary antagonist of the 2008 film, L: Change the World, a spin-off of the live-action Death Note film series. Seemingly the devote partner of Dr. Kimiko Kujo's plot to save the Earth through decimating humanity who both co-lead the Blue Ship organization, in truth Dr. Matoba is a greedy weapons dealer who seeks the antidote so he can sell the world ending virus while ensuring he survives the after-effects and get money in the process.
He was portrayed by Masanobu Takashima, while in the English dub he was voiced by John Murphy.
What Makes Him Pure Evil?[]
- Alongside Dr. Kimiko Kujo, Dr. Matoba founds the eco-terrorist organization Blue Ship, leading them to release Dr. Kujo's devastating virus and wipe out nearly all of humanity.
- Unlike other members of the Blue Ship, he is not a sincere follower of their rhetoric of saving the environment. While Dr. Kujo is willing to die with the rest of the world, Dr. Matoba was secretly trying to sue his authority over the organization to sell the virus for profit, wiping out humanity and having the additional gain of money in the process, and have an antidote created so he can survive.
- When his associate, Professor Kagami, catches onto Dr. Matoba's true colours and calls him out for his secret selfishness, Dr. Matoba spitefully murders him by stabbing in the back and using this as a demonstration to show his authority is absolute.
- Sanctions an attack on a village in Thailand, having the entire village's population infected with the virus, seeing countless dying, children included, and everyone in agony and has the crew abuse them and record the footage. To erase all evidences of foulplay, Daisuke has the entire village bombed, killing any and all survivors.
- Leads an attack on the Infectious Disease Center of Asia, having dozens of security officers and innocent scientists killed.
- Chases after L Lawliet, the unnamed boy under his wing and Maki Nikado, to kill and/or kidnap them.
- Upon having Maki kidnapped, Daisuke attempts to use his authority to sell off the virus to the American government to kickstart Blue Ship's genocidal plot.
