I NEED the energy of those creatures! Bring them to ME!
~ Cursa to her Spark Hunters.

Cursa is the main antagonist of Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope, the 2022 sequel to the 2017 strategy action crossover game, Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle and the overarching antagonist of the DLC expansions.

She is a malevolent and power-hungry cosmic entity created from a fragment of the MegaBug, which takes possession of Rosalina's body. She would later attempt to conquer the universe by spreading Darkmess energy, and by absorbing the power of the Sparks in order to take full control of Rosalina; although she would ultimately be destroyed by her, Mario, and their allies. She's the leader and creator of the Spark Hunters, and therefore Edge's former master.

What Makes Her Pure Evil?[]

  • Even though she's a fragment of the MegaBug, an entity which is considered a Generic Doomsday Villain, Cursa gained sentience as she was mutated by stellar debris, gaining a desire to plunge the universe in darkness. She had also targeted Rosalina specifically in order to succeed in her goals, indicating she has sapience.
  • She tried to absorb the Lumas' energy to become powerful when she became drawn to the Comet Observatory.
  • She managed to defeat Rosalina and take possession of her body, indirectly causing the creation of the Sparks, Rabbid-Luma hybrids, in the process. In order to suppress Rosalina's traits of heroism, she began absorbing the energy of the Sparks. To do so, she created an army of corrupted Rabbids and brainwashed Bowser's minions with the Spark Hunters to lead them.
    • Edge was created by Cursa to lead the Spark Hunters, however, she gained free-will and realized how evil Cursa is and deserted to save the Sparks.
  • She transformed the Comet Observatory into her Stronghold for her operations.
  • She attacked the Mushroom Kingdom with her army and the Darkmess Manta Ray all while searching for a Spark that escaped her grasp. This also results in Rabbid Peach getting kidnapped by the Manta with Mario boarding it to save her.
    • The presence of Darkmess on the rest of the planets has shown to have devastating effects on the planets, with Beacon Beach suffering under a dark overcast rainfall, Pristine Peaks under a severe blizzard and extreme cold, the forest of Palette Prime devoid of color and of life, Terra Flora suffering a drought that endangers flora and fauna, Barrendale Mesa under an electric storm, and Melodic Gardens falling into silence, and they can be easily traced back to Cursa.
  • When she absorbs some Sparks, she absorbs their essence which left them lifeless husks.
  • When Rosalina freed herself to give the heroes time to escape, she possesses her once again.
  • Cursa is shown to have absolutely no care nor have any attachment for the Spark Hunters and is known to be incredibly abusive towards them as well as her other minions and she came close to actually crushing Midnite and Bedrock for failing to present any Sparks for her. And while Daphne fared better in gathering the Sparks, she is never shown to praise her or express any gratitude towards her. She also tried to kill Edge for not only disobeying her but betraying her as well and it is extremely likely that she would have done this to Kanya if she ever found out that she also not only betrayed her, but also wanting to usurp her position of power.
  • Since she created Kanya, she's indirectly responsible for all of Kanya's crimes at Melodic Gardens, with it falling into silence which also threatened to cause the planet to cease to exist had the heroes not intervened.
  • She summoned Darkmess versions of both Bowser and Edge to fight the heroes, More specially the embodiment of Edge's evil actions and her early days as a Spark Hunter. The battle with the latter ends up revealing the real Edge's origins which had her admit who she was to the Heroes, though they fortunately understood her motivations for leaving in the first place.
  • When the heroes finally released Rosalina from her possession, she tries to kill the heroes out of petty spite.
  • Overall, she's one of the most destructive characters in both the Mario and Rabbids franchises.

Trivia[]

  • Cursa is the fifth Mario villain to be Pure Evil and also the first and only one to come from a Rabbids game.
    • That being said, the Rabbids were well-known for being portrayed in a comedic light in their own series as well as in the Mario + Rabbids crossover, while Cursa on the other hand has no comedic moments, especially ones that don't detract from her status, meaning she was always portrayed as a serious threat, for both audience and the characters alike.
