Do you really want the truth, or do you just want to look like the hero?
~ Crooked Man to Bigby Wolf, questioning his motivations - also his most famous quote.
Yes, see? This is exactly to what I'm speaking. We lashed our ropes to this diseased world, and ever since, which one of us has been there for you? Who filled your lives with the promise of more? Who was there while they idly played in their towers, judging you, treating you as mindless children too stupid to command your own destiny. Without me, who will pay your rent when you're on the verge of eviction? Who will dare challenge their brutality when it leaks to our dear citizens? Who will protect you from the Big Bad Wolf?
~ Crooked Man’s speech to the Fables, attempting to act innocent and gain their approval and manipulating them.

The Crooked Man is the main antagonist of 2013 interactive choice mystery video game The Wolf Among Us.

He is a fable and a ruthless crime boss and loan shark, who’s money and influence grasp the city of Fabletown and its inhabitants for years.

He was voiced by Philip Banks.

What Makes Him Pure Evil?[]

  • According to his Book of Fables entry, he murdered his own wife and children so they wouldn't get in the way of his goal to become a crime lord.
  • He built himself a massive crime empire in Fabletown for years, enrapturing most of the Fables in the city into debt, and always keeps them in debt through any means possible while pretending to give them what they want, all while manipulating them using their past traumatic experiences leaving their homes.
    • He has Bloody Mary, Tweedle Dee and Dum be the muscles of his operation, using them to have people who stand in their way killed or threatened into submission.
    • He operates with Georgie Porgie and Vivian in the Pudding & Pie strip club, financing them and indebting many women into prostitutes, which includes Nerissa, Lilly, and Faith. He enables them to be abused by Georgie and their clients. The women are also cursed with Vivian's ribbon, which prevents them from talking about the horrible conditions and decapitates them if they try to remove it. It is also said that he strong armed Georgie and Vivian into joining his empire.
    • He has Jersey Devil act as another muscle, using The Lucky Pawn pawn shop as a front for his loan shark deals, in which he entraps Fables like Beauty and Beast into debts while manipulating them.
    • He works with Aunty Greenleaf, manipulating her by returning her old tree back and works with her to make black-market Glamour potions. While Greenleaf wanted to give her community a fair chance at getting Glamours they couldn't afford, it was out of pragmatism for Crooked Man to continue his shady operations.
    • He forces Johann the Butcher into letting his minions use The Cut Above butcher shop as a front for their black market operations, converting the freezer into a sweatshop. They then kept Johann as a lookout and threatened to kill him if he refused.
  • As revealed by Jack, a Fable named Simple Simon opened a bakery and used a loan payment by Crooked Man, but when he was late on payments, Crooked Man had him baked into a pie and fed to alley cats.
  • He ordered the deaths of Lily and Faith by having Georgie decapitate them for trying to escape their operations and stepping out of line.
  • When Bigby and Snow arrest Crane for the embezzlement and under suspicion of the murders, Crooked Man sends Bloody Mary and the Tweedles to confront them and kidnap Crane so he wouldn’t snitch on their operation, and has Bloody Mary mutilate Bigby by breaking his arm and shooting him with a silver bullet.
  • While he does provide Tiny Tim a job as an escort, it's solely to maintain his façade of affability.
  • When Bigby confronts Crooked Man and his goons, he instantly tries to throw Georgie Porgie under the bus, blaming him solely for Faith and Lily's murders to use as a scapegoat.
  • He causes a commotion when Bigby tries to arrest him, ordering his minions to kill Bigby as he escapes with Bloody Mary, which indirectly leads to the death of Georgie and Vivian.
  • When Bigby manages to kill Bloody Mary and confronts him, Crooked Man pulls a silver bullet laced gun on him and threatens to kill him, ordering Bigby to put him on trial and to not kill him.
    • During this confrontation, he shows little emotion hearing about Mary’s nor Georgie’s deaths, showing he never truly cared for them, and he tried questioning Bigby’s faith into why he does his heroic actions.
  • If alive, when on trial on the 13th floor, he starts to manipulate the jury, using their past lives of the Homelands and having to be fled out of their homes, saying he gave them all hope and opportunity, all while denying any involvement in Faith or Lily’s murders and attempts to shark the blame at Snow and Bigby, trying to make them seem corrupt and evil.
  • When Nerissa comes in and backs up Crooked Man ordering Lily and Faith’s deaths, Crooked Man in a last ditch effort attempts to murder Bigby by throwing him down the Witching Well, and he’ll even taunt Bigby when he punches him, telling them to remember him when they try to sleep.
  • Overall, he's shown to be nothing more than a cruel and ruthless crime shark who doesn’t care for anyone but himself, and while he says he is trying to help the community of Fabletown, it is clear he is just using them to get what he wants and manipulates them at his whim, and his affable persona is merely that, a persona.
