~ Cromwell Ames threatening Eddie Nero. |
Cromwell Ames is the secondary antagonist in Series 5 of Endeavour.
Cromwell Ames was initially just a car dealer but would use this as a pretense to cover up the fact that he is actually an ambitious lead gangster in Oxford who wants to usurp the crime underworld from Eddie Nero and dominate it entirely. Unlike Eddie Nero who shows some restraint and some moments of humanity, Cromwell Ames revels in cruelty and commits many atrocities with no moral restraints whatsoever just to get what he wants.
He was played by David Jonsson.
What Makes Him Pure Evil?[]
- Organized several arsons on several estates that are under Eddie Nero's name; endangering dozens of innocent people (the first arson in particular endangered six families of Asian and Kenyan immigrants).
- Stabbed Liam Flynn three times, resulting in his death.
- Attacking an innocent lorry driver who was mercilessly beaten for several hours before hijacking his lorry.
- Gutting Lloyd Collins alive after he unknowingly spilled information on Ames, resulting in him bleeding out and dying (Lloyd Collins was one of his own minions).
- Provoking Eddie Nero repeatedly and threatening gang warfare against him if he doesn't leave Ames to take his place.
- Attempted to shoot and kill both Nero and his wife.
- Evaded all of Thursday's questions and proclaimed that it was the doing of "voodoo".
- Armed his gang and proceeded to start a shootout in Nero's bar which resulting in the deaths of everyone whom was in the bar.
- While not the one responsible for murdering George Fancy, Ames is the one who instigated the very situation that resulted in his death.
- Throughout the entire of Series 5, Cromwell Ames showed absolutely no remorse for his crimes and even showed some glints of being a genuine sadist. Compared to the lighter-hearted Series 3 and 4, Series 5 pushes the series back to a much darker tone; the vast majority of this is due to his influence in the story.
