[Yeah, what is up people? It's Courtney Gears. Are you feeling me, robots? I'm feeling you.]
♫I see the future, and what do I see?
Robots going crazy across the galaxy!
Can't stand organics, they're soft and squishy!
The time is now, we robots must be free!♫
[Do you want to be free? Then shout with me, yeah!]
♫This goes out to all you robots across the galaxy, it's time for you and me to rise up and strike back!
Don't stop until we dominate, won't you feel great, when we exterminate all organic life!
~ Courtney's song

Courtney Gears is the secondary antagonist of the 2004 video game Ratchet & Clank: Up Your Arsenal. She is a xenophobic and extravagant pop star that conspires with Dr. Nefarious to wipe out all organic life in the Solana Galaxy, but her efforts are foiled by Ratchet after defeating her on the planet, Obani Draco, although she would end up surviving and remain a Karma Houdini for the rest of the series.

She was voiced by Melissa Disney in Up Your Arsenal, and Nika Futterman (who also voiced The Khan Makyr in Doom Eternal) in Deadlocked.

What Makes Her Pure Evil?[]

  • Unlike Nefarious, who had a Freudian Excuse for wanting to get rid of organic life in the galaxy, Gears was only interested in doing it out of sheer xenophobia towards organic life and has no excuse or tragedy to justify her actions.
  • After she teamed up with Nefarious to aid him in his genocidal plans, she makes a propaganda music video encouraging her fans and other robots to join Nefarious's army and help them exterminate all organic life.
  • Despite making a promise towards Clank to give information on Dr. Nefarious if he lets her be in one of his holofilms, Gears doesn't honor her side of the deal and kidnaps Clank so Nefarious can try to manipulate him into joining his cause.
  • She kidnaps Skidd and turns him into a robot, while filming it at the same time. This horrifies Ratchet at how turning Skidd into a robot was even possible, with Gears then remarking to Ratchet that he "shouldn't be afraid since the transformation doesn't hurt... much", before engaging in a fight with him.
  • During their fight, she makes a threat to Ratchet that she will turn him into a fur coat after she kills him.
  • After she turns out to have survived in Deadlocked, it is revealed that she dumped her boyfriend, Dull 'Reactor' Bookworm, due to him wanting to be a school teacher to help children, only getting back together with him after he is rich and a successful gladiator in Gleeman Vox's TV show, DreadZone.
  • Just like Qwark for his actions in the first two games of the series (except for his petty scam of the fake Gadgetron happened between said prequel games), she suffers no legal consequences for her actions, as it is believed she was only attacked by "psychotic fans" (Ratchet and Clank, fake-news), and gets undeserved sympathy instead.
  • Despite the series having a very high standard, Gears stands out for having less resources than a lot of the villains in the series, as she was only a henchwoman of Nefarious rather then a leader of an army or being rich with a lot of influence, with attempted genocide also being a fairly unique crime for the series.
  • Her love towards Dr. Nefarious was a facade and was only using him to achieve her goals, though Nefarious himself was not aware about Courtney's treachery, and has no realization of her twisted goals.
  • Although she was angered when her best dancer Melissa was destroyed by Ratchet, it was most likely because it will damage her video choreography, rather than because she cared about her. The tone of her voice suggests that she is annoyed, making it even clear.
