Your wife has a lovely neck.
~ Count Orlok planning to feed on Hutter's wife.

Count Orlok, also known as Nosferatu, is the titular main antagonist of the 1922 classic silent horror film Nosferatu: A Symphony of Horror. He is a reclusive vampire operating from a decrepit Romanian castle who spreads plagues among villages over the course of centuries, resulting in the deaths and transformations of many, until his undoing during a plague transmission in the distant fictional German town of Wisborg.

He is one of the most iconic monsters of classic horror, rivaling Dracula, Godzilla, Frankenstein's Monster, The Wolf Man, and Xenomorphs. In this regard, he is also notable for being more faithful in many ways to the traditional representation of vampires in folklore, being a hideous demonic creature rather than an attractive gentleman.

He was portrayed by the late Max Schreck.

What Makes Him Pure Evil?[]

  • He terrorized his homeland to the point where everyone became too afraid to be outside after dark.
  • Despite being a demon spawn, there's no evidence to suggest he is made of evil.
  • He almost drained Thomas Hutter of his blood once the latter cut his finger.
  • He decides to stow away on a ship to London despite being able to feed on people in his homeland, simply because London would make a better feeding ground with more victims.
  • He left Thomas Hutter to starve to death in his castle once he had outlived his usefulness.
  • Brainwashed Knock into being his loyal minion.
  • He plagues an entire ship with his rat carriers, killing all the crew members with the exception of the first mate, who jumps overboard to escape Orlok and likely drowns.
  • He spreads a deadly plague across Germany and causes hundreds of deaths, simply to overshadow his feeding.
  • As a result of his actions, Thomas Hutter's wife, Ellen, is forced to sacrifice herself by allowing Olork to drain her to death in order to keep him distracted until the sun rises and kills him.
  • He doesn't even have lust for Ellen; he is only obsessed with her because he can sense how appetizing the blood on her neck is.
  • Despite his association with rats, he shows no care for them, simply using them to advance his crimes.

Trivia[]

  • His counterpart in the 1979 remake by Werner Herzog, actually named Dracula, doesn't count as he's portrayed as a tragic monster who desperately seeks death.
