“ | You think God survived? He's dead, along with the rest of humanity. There's no law or order, no good or evil. Just us. | „ |
~ Gallo's nihilistic rant towards Bower and Nadia. |
“ | Just imagine, just for a minute...imagine yourself without the chains of your morality. You'd even surprise yourself. It's the ultimate freedom. I know it's frightening at first, terrifying in fact. Isn't that what you're feeling right now, terrible fear? Let go and on the other side of it is divine clarity. Purity. Enlightenment. You are resisting what is. You have to let go of your petty concept of reality. That's just baggage from the old world, and we both know that didn't work out very well, now did it? They f-cked up our planet! Life eats life! And all that's left is what is. This ship is the sea from which we can create a new world. A new world, natural state, raw. Beautiful. Perfect. I am offering you the kingdom, and all that's holding you back is your own fear! | „ |
~ Gallo offering to rule his "kingdom" together with Bower. |
Corporal Gallo, who stole the identity of Lieutenant Payton, is the main antagonist in the 2009 sci-fi horror film Pandorum.
He initially comes off as the most level-headed character in the film, but slowly but surely reveals himself to be something much more sinister, being singlehandedly responsible for killing off most of what's left of the human race.
He was portrayed by Dennis Quaid in the present and by Cam Gigandet in the past.
What Makes Him Pure Evil?[]
- Within seconds of hearing Earth's final transmission, Gallo killed his commanding officer and second lieutenant before ejecting 5,000 people to their deaths in deep space.
- Slowly over the course of 915 years (even after making it to the planet Tanis), Gallo would awaken nearly 55,000 people from hypersleep with a synthetic accelerative enzyme still in their bodies, making them adapt to the ship Elysium. As a result, anyone awake long enough would mutate into deformed cannibals called the Hunters, eating their own people just to survive. At least one survivor was unfortunate enough to be eaten alive right when he woke up.
- He kills Leland, stabbing him in the eye with a sedative needle.
- He tries to corrupt Bower in the end, hoping to rule his twisted kingdom together. When Bower refuses the offer out of paranoia and disgust for his monstrous acts, Gallo then tries to kill both him and Nadia so he can keep ruling alone.
- Despite being dissociative, he has a moral agency. His speech at the end of the movie clearly shows that he still understands what's right and wrong but just doesn't care, and overall he has no motive other than sheer nihilism and delusions of godhood.
