Father always spoiled you rotten, you little brat!
~ Cooler's jealously towards Frieza.
Ha! So this is the mighty Super Saiyan that defeated my brother. How ridiculous. Frieza deserved to die if he got beat by a weakling like you. I AM THE SUPREME MASTER OF THIS UNIVERSE! I AM THE GREAT DESTROYER, THE TAKER OF LIFE! IT IS MY WILL THAT THIS PLANET AND EVERYONE ON IT BE ANNIHILATED!
~ Cooler before attempting to destroy Earth.
Yes, by all accounts, I should in fact be dead. Incinerated in the fires of your sun. But fate, it seems, saw fit that I'd have a second chance. And thanks to the power of the Big Gete Star, I have been reborn stronger and sleeker; new and improved, you might say.
~ Meta-Cooler about how he survived.
My brother was a pest. I would've killed him myself sooner or later.
~ Cooler to Goku about Frieza

Cooler is the older brother of Frieza, the first son of King Cold, and the titular main antagonist of the 1991 film Dragon Ball Z: Cooler's Revenge and its 1992 sequel Dragon Ball Z: The Return of Cooler. Like Garlic Jr., he too is an anime-only character that never existed in the manga.

He was voiced by Ryūsei Nakao, who also voices Frieza in Japanese, and Andrew Chandler in English.

What Makes Him Pure Evil?[]

  • He is an active part of the Planet Trade Organization, where they conquer and exterminate multiple planets to sell them to the highest bidder.
    • He is known to have around 256 planets conquered and sometimes subjugates some of those planets and their populations to make money off them.
  • Like Frieza, he's massively racist towards Saiyans, referring to them as monkeys.
  • When he sees that Goku's ship was leaving Planet Vegeta, although he decides to let it pass, it is not out of mercy, but simply because he prefers letting Frieza fall victim to his own mistakes out of sheer spite.
  • After the destruction of Planet Vegeta, he and his men proceeded to either conquer (Original/Japanese version) or destroy (English version) seven more planets on that same day.
  • In his second scene in the first film, he and his men are seen on a planet where they have exterminated all life.
  • Realizing that Goku killed his brother Frieza, he does not express any sadness at his death, even stating that he was a fool and would have gladly killed him if not for his death in the English version, therefore showing he held no love for Frieza at all.
    • While he was right that Frieza did deserve to die for everything he did, Cooler still expressed his jealousy and hatred towards him for being spoiled rotten by their father.
  • He heads to Earth to kill Goku, stating that after killing him, they will also wipe out Earth, just like they did the planet they just conquered.
  • While he claims to want to kill Goku to "cleanse his family's honor", this is simply based on pride and ego, rather than genuine care for his family.
  • He seriously injures Piccolo with his energy attacks. He then drops him and has him explode in front of Goku just to spite him.
  • After overcoming Goku and preparing to destroy the Earth, he laughs at how Goku is crying over a bird he killed himself.
  • He tries to destroy the entire Earth with his Supernova.
  • In the English version, he planned to destroy the Sun and let the entire Solar System freeze to death in darkness just to kill Goku.
  • After returning thanks to the powers of Big Gete Star, he planned to wipe out all the Namekians on New Namek in an extremely horrible and unique way even by Dragon Ball standards, planning to dismember them with saws and grind them to death, just to serve as fuel for Big Gete Star, even trying to do it with Goku's friends.
  • He tortures Goku and Vegeta almost to death by slowly absorbing their energy while declaring his intention to advance to Earth to finish them off in the same way he intended to kill the Namekians, and then continue advancing from planet to planet, doing so himself in a goal of bloody universal conquest.
  • As seen, any respect he might have for Goku instantly disappears in the second, where he sees him as nothing more than an annoying bug. Also, his line of "Hahaha, yes! It is I who decides who lives and who dies! All living things are mere playthings to me!" it shows that, Cooler really has no respect for him at all even after the first film.
  • Despite the Dragon Ball franchise's massive heinous standard, Cooler still stands out for having conquered (and occasionally destroyed) many planets, being willing to wipe out the entire Solar System by letting it slowly freeze to death, and attempting to wipe out the entire Namekian race in a rather unique way, not to mention that, after taking down the Namekians, he will continue to do the same from planet to planet in a goal of bloody universal conquest.
    • He also doesn't have to compete with the standards of villains in Dragon Ball Super like Goku Black/Zamasu, Moro, Zeno, Beerus or even his brother, as his the movies aren't part of canon continuity. Although he does appear (very briefly) in Dragon Ball GT, he still stands out in Dragon Ball Z and GT due to the aforementioned points.

Trivia[]

  • Cooler's quotes from Budokai Tenkaichi 3 were used to voice Turbo Mecha Sonic.
  • Some may argue that Cooler isn't pure evil due to caring for his Nephew Kuriza. However, this only occurs in the Budokai games, which are not canon.
