I am not interested in conflicted antagonists. Nor, for that matter, is anyone else. People want a bad guy they can hate unequivocally. Someone whose brutal demise they can cheer without remorse. Life, sadly, rarely treats them to such a luxury. And here are all these actors, trying to muddy things with moral complexity. F-ck that, I say. And I'll not have it. I am not the hero in my own story. I am the bad guy. I have no end in mind that justifies my means. There are no skeletons in my closet, no abusive childhood or inciting misery that might expiate my vile behavior. Nor am I insane. I know the difference between good and evil. And I am fully capable of empathizing with the pain, emotional or physical, of others. No sociopath, I. Rather, I simply prefer bad over good. Wrong over right. Sick over healthy. Untrue over true.
~ Contagion upon capturing Wolverine.

Winsor, also known as Contagion, is a minor antagonist in Marvel Comics, serving as the main antagonist of Wolverine: The Best There Is. He is a supervillain born in Latvaria with the capabilities to control any diseases known to man, as well as the founder and leader of the Unkillables. He's one of the most evil and depraved villains Wolverine has ever faced.

What Makes Him Pure Evil?[]

  • After discovering his abilities, he tested them by killing several Latvarians with his abilities. This including his own foster siblings, before escaping from his own country.
  • Formed a group known as the Unkillables, infecting with a virus so they have no choice but to obey him and assist him in his plans.
  • Uses nearly Immortal individuals as test subjects for his experiments, constantly infecting them with a disease over and over again to make a stronger and deadlier virus.
  • He pukes on an Immortal mutant after digging him out of quicksand. After giving him an acidic touch, he has one of his minions cannibalize him.
  • Revealed to have a pit-fight area where he forced mutants and animals to fight to the death. We see several dead dogs so it's neither offscreen nor fridge horror.
  • Infected his own son Flip with a deadly virus that horribly mutates him into an abomination, his son is slowly dying from this predicament.
  • Gives a sadistic choice for Wolverine that he either let Contagion do painfully nasty experiments on him and his healing factor so he'll make a cure for his son, or he'll let his son die and go back home as if nothing happened. When Wolverine begrudgingly agreed to the former, Contagion puts a collar around his son's neck to keep Wolverine in line or Contagion will kill Flip.
  • Revealed he never intended to fulfill his end of the bargain and let his son die anyway, as he was only making a cure only for himself and no one else.
  • After his previous defeat, he recaptured all of his minions and instill a virus onto them that is capable of killing all life in the planet if not the Universe (including the Afterlife itself).
  • He plans to use this virus for him to across the universe and across Heaven and Hell, leaving only stars and space to be dealt. To achieve his plan, he intends to use a Shi'ar spaceship to go across the universe and infect everything he encounters.
  • Infected one of Wolverine's girlfriends with a technocratic virus, killing her before it could infect Wolverine with the virus as well.

Trivia[]

  • His quote is currently on the front page of the Pure Evil category on Villains Wiki. It also serves as the primary, and accurate, definition of what a Pure Evil villain is.
    • Said quote was so accurate at defining a Pure Evil villain, it was on the Pure Evil category page years before Contagion was proposed.
