Constance Hatchaway, or also better known as The Black Widow Bride, is the secondary antagonist of the popular Disney Parks ride The Haunted Mansion. She is arguably the most villainous and/or most dangerous presence on the ride, being the ghost of a bride with a murderous past life.
She is a revamped version of the original Bride character that was introduced in 2006 in the Disneyland variant and 2007 in the Walt Disney World variant. Also in 2006 and 2007, the attic area, she can be found in, was also redesigned to reflect the new character interpretation and darker tone.
Her performance model was Julia Lee and she was voiced by Kat Cressida.
What Makes Her Pure Evil?[]
- She is a serial killer who married five wealthy men and beheaded them with a hatchet in order to inherit their wealth, despite them all being genuinely in love with her.
- While never stated, it’s heavily implied she killed the Hatbox Ghost, as her earlier counterpart, the Beating Heart Bride, was implied to be his fiancée.
- She never got her comeuppance for her crimes.
- As a ghost, she haunts the attic and threatens every person who enters the attic with murder by her from her hatchet.
- Due to her murdering her husbands, their ghosts become trapped in the Haunted Mansion in the attic along with her ghost.
- She mocks the ghosts of her murdered husbands by repeating sinister variants of traditional wedding vows.
- She's the most villainous character in the attraction, and in many adaptations of the ride, she is hated and feared by all the other ghosts.
- While it is implied that she murdered to become wealthy due to a poor upbringing, this is never confirmed and does not justify her actions.
