| “ | Do I need a reason? Mrs. Kupfer was right, you know. I do love a good joke, and this is the best ever, a joke on the children. But there's a better reason. You don't really know much about Halloween. You thought no further than the strange custom of having your children wear masks and go out begging for candy. It was the start of the year in our old Celtic lands and we'd be waiting... in our houses of wattles and clay. The barriers would be down, you see. Between the real and the unreal. And the dead is looking in... to sit by our fires of turf. Halloween. The festival of Samhain. The last great one took place three thousand years ago and the hills ran red... with the blood of animals and children. | „ |
| ~ Conal Cochran giving his speech to Dr. Daniel Challis. |
Conal Cochran is the main antagonist of the 1982 horror sci-fi film Halloween III: Season of the Witch, the third installment in the Halloween franchise.
He was portrayed by the late Dan O'Herlihy, who also voiced Grant Walker in Batman: The Animated Series.
What Makes Him Pure Evil?[]
- Previous to the events of the movie, he and his employers stole a piece of Stonehenge by unknown means, thought it is possible that he used some type of evil scheme, knowing how bad and inteligent Cochran is, like black magic, corruption, blackmail, pay off, manipulation, trickery or even sabotage.
- Uses his android to kill people who suspects of his activities like Teddy, Starker or Harry Grimbage, all of them having terrible deaths.
- He created masks with a computer chip made from a fragment of Stonehenge that unleashes insects and snakes that kill children.
- He and his doctors/scientists uncover Marge's death, after she was killed by a protection laser chip when she was inspecting one of the masks, saying that "nothing happened".
- He tricks Buddy Kupfer, his best and most loyal salesman, and his family into a trap to test the power of the mask, resulting in them dying horribly due the dangerous animals summoned. Even Challis, who is himself a courageous man was horrified of this.
- He pretends to be a friendly and charming man who wants to make children happy about Halloween, but it turns out to be an act, as he is revealed to be a diabolical psychopath who just wants to have them killed.
- He plans to kill millions of children all over the country to bring back the darker aspects of the Celtic festival Samhain that stems from pagan rituals in the Celtic lands going back centuries for his family.
- He tries to do the same to Dr. Daniel Challis to keep him from revealing his plans.
- While it may sound noble to bring back the original Halloween, this is not truly a redeeming quality, because he even considers the mass killing of children to be a funny joke. This prove that he cares more in satiating his presumed disdain for children than the Halloween festival.
- He does not care of his workers nor his androids, this is proven in the last scene when they are killed by Challis. Conan's response to that action is smiling and clapping sarcastically to Challis.
- Thought not confirmed, he probably also kills or at least transforms Ellie into a robot, forcing Daniel Challis to kill her in self-defense.
- Although he is part of the same franchise, it should be noted that Halloween III is in a completely different timeline from all the installments that do not involve Michael Myers (the first entry exists as a movie in this one), meaning he stands in the stories containing heinous standards separated from that having done worse things than any other Halloween characters in the series, being probably the worst villain/antagonist in the franchise by far.
- If the original ending present in novelization is true, then he would be responsible for killing millions of children worldwide just for pleasure.
