| ~ The Coachman to Pinocchio, subtly hinting at the potential bleak fate that awaits for him at Pleasure Island. |
The Coachman is one of the two main antagonists (alongside Monstro) of the 2022 live-action film Pinocchio, a remake of the 1940s traditionally animated classic film of the same name.
He is the mysterious owner of Pleasure Island, where he brings boys and girls, whether naughty ones who don't like to go to school so they can hang out and do whatever they please or those who aren't even interested in going through coercion and peer pressure. However, by doing so, these children are eventually transformed into donkeys, whom the Coachman later sells into labor and slavery in the salt mines to "punish" them. He is also based off his original incarnation of the same name.
He was portrayed by Luke Evans.
What Makes Him Pure Evil?[]
- He takes naughty little boys and girls who don't like to go to school to Pleasure Island so they can do whatever they want until they are transformed into donkeys, stripping them from their identities and humanities.
- He sells those transformed donkeys into slavery and labor at salt mines for profit.
- He goads some of the children he takes to pressure Pinocchio into accepting his offer to go to Pleasure Island, even singing a song about the place, until Pinocchio relents, showing that he also incites children who aren't interested in going there just for the sake of more victims.
- He lets the children he takes to Pleasure Island to drink root beer, destroy things and even play with fireworks, providing the children with things that don't contribute to any in their lives and even that endanger their safety, given how a kid burns his rear with a firecracker for example.
- While he isn't shown to whip his minions like in the animated version, he doesn't show any care for them either, with his relationship with them going unexplored.
- While he called his minions "scums", this indicates that he is a very tough boss to work with who would bark orders at his workers and doesn’t care if they’re getting tired or not.
- He personally tries to capture Pinocchio when Jiminy Cricket warns him about what's happening and is only horrified at Pinocchio jumping off the cliff because he felt that a wood donkey would have been very valuable.
- Although he isn't sadistic, unlike his animated version, he is still evil enough to display zero regrets and no empathy for any of the children condemned within their horrific fates.
- Just like his animated counterpart, he too gets off scot free with no punishment for his crimes whatsoever.
