NOTE: This page is only about his film incarnation as the original novel incarnation of Clancy Gray was not voted Pure Evil, and thus only the film version of Clancy Gray's info and crimes should be put here. |
Clancy Gray is the main antagonist of the 2018 science fiction thriller film The Darkest Minds.
He was portrayed by Patrick Gibson.
What Makes Him Pure Evil?[]
- While he was initially unsupportive towards his father for how he experimented on him just to find a cure to remove his Psi powers and IAAN, he goes far past it by agreeing to weaponize Reds into mindless killing machines through Project Jamboree.
- Betrayed the East River refugee camp to recruit an army of Oranges to form an army while preparing to instigate a war against the Psi.
- Despite neurally linking to Ruby Daly, he never even truly cares for her as he would go as far as to trick her into remembering her 10th birthday before outright attempting to rape her.
- Unlike the novel version, said incident was implied to be an act of rape, whereas the novel version doesn't even imply that Clancy raped Ruby Daly.
- Calls all the Government Soldiers on Ruby and her friends before declaring war against the Psi, proving his hypocrisy as he planned to destroy his own race since Clancy is a Psi.
- Not to mention that when everyone began to flee the scene, he even commanded Red soldiers and armed forces attempt to kill everyone on site.
- While he expresses disappointment towards Ruby that she did not accept his offer of world conquest and tries to erase the memory of him trying to rape her, he was clearly using it to manipulate Ruby into joining his side.
- Rallied an army of the government to fight against Ruby and the other Psi who gathered as part of the League, never to be seen again due to the film ending up making too little money to warrant an adaptation of the sequel, Never Fade, thereby making him a Karma Houdini.
Trivia[]
- Clancy Gray in the novels doesn't qualify as Pure Evil, as not only he ultimately fails the heinous standard to his father, who was revealed to behind most of Clancy's troubles and even his mother Lillian Gray, but also redeems himself as he realizes that only with his powers that he could stop his abusive father. Not to mention that even with the writer confirming that Clancy didn't try to rape Ruby in the novels, rape isn't even implied in the novel versions.
- With the redeeming qualities of the novel version put aside, Clancy Gray serves as one of the rare Pure Evils who qualified due to having one of their actions, which were originally standard, being adapted into being worse than in the original source material.
