Nothing is necessary. Everything is a choice.
~ Cipher's most famous line
To the world out there... I am the crocodile of the watering hole.
~ Cipher
Do you know what I like about you, Dom? You're a genuine outlaw.
~ Another famous line from Cipher

Cipher is one of two main antagonists (alongside Dante Reyes) of the Fast & Furious franchise.

She is a notorious cyberterrorist who became the archenemy of Dominic Toretto after kidnapping his son, killing his former lover and forcing his compliance. She also used several individuals and teams to aid in completing her goals to gain control over the world's superpowers.

She is portrayed by Charlize Theron.

What Makes Her Pure Evil?[]

Fast & Furious 6[]

  • At first she went to hire Deckard Shaw for a job, but when he turned it down, she went off to hire his brother Owen Shaw to steal several military-grade components that would allow her to create a "Nightshade" device, which consisted on a tech-bomb that served like an Electromagnetic Pulse. This act resulted in Owen's corruption and clashing with Dom's team, leading to his initial downfall and Deckard going on a revenge spree in his name.

Furious 7[]

  • Hired Mose Jakande to steal the God's Eye, a surveillance program created by the hacker Ramsey that allowed an individual to track anyone anywhere on the planet by proxy of other devices such as cell phones and public security cameras, even if it meant capturing Ramsey.

The Fate of The Furious[]

  • Kidnapped former police officer and DSS agent Elena Neves and her son Marcos to blackmail Dominic Toretto, Elena's former lover and Marcos' father, into working for her.
  • Attacked Mr. Nobody's black-site and stole the God's Eye. She also mocked Deckard over his brother, for not working for her and choosing "the losing team".
  • Kissed Dominic out of spite towards Letty to make her believe that Dominic had betrayed her and to show her superiority.
  • Hijacked the computer chips from many cars in New York City to use them against a motorcade protecting the Russian Minister of Defense to extract some nuclear launch codes, which caused so many disasters around the city and the deaths of many people.
  • When Dominic saved Letty from Connor Rhodes, she let Rhodes execute Elena in front of him and Marcos, also threatening to do the same to the baby if Dominic failed to cooperate with her again.
  • Tried to use the nuclear launch codes and the EMP device to hijack a Russian nuclear submarine to trigger World War III in her quest for world domination.
  • Didn't cared for Rhodes' death in spite to his loyalty to her. While she did order her henchmen to kill Marcos, it's more likely that she ordered so because of Dominic's betrayal rather than to avenge Rhodes.
  • Left the Shaws and Marcos to die on her plane while she parachuted to escape from them despite Owen's previous allegiance to her, although the Shaw brothers and Dominic's son managed to survive.

F9[]

  • She had Jakob, Dom's brother free her from her prison and attempted to manipulate him into working for her. Later, she betrayed Jakob, revealing that he was no longer useful and had Otto and his henchmen attempt to dispose him.
  • Used Otto to kidnap Elle for her DNA to activate Project Aries to control all of the world's computers and advanced weapons systems for evil purposes.
  • Attempted to kill Dom with a bomb via UAV, not caring for when she struck Otto. After her defeat by Dom and his crew, she continues to remain at large. Additionally, she expressed no concern over the death of Otto.

Fast X[]

  • According to Dante Reyes, Cipher desires to control world through nuclear warfare.
  • Rejects Dante Reyes' offer of partnership to torture Dom and his family, because she had her own plans for him and ordered her men to kill Dante for barging into her place.
  • After Dante turns her own men against her, she disarms and kills them all because she never trusted any of them in the first place. Though it was in self-defense, by killing them, Cipher proves Dante's point that she is a threat to all of them, if not one worse than himself (even though Dante will have done considerably worse than her).
    • Furthermore, its proven that Cipher was a far more capable fighter, being able to kill her own, former men, even being able to fend them off all of them at once. Thus, she is no longer considered non-action so she's not only a dangerous hacker, she's also a ruthless fighter, capable of defeating others stronger than her.
  • Goes to Dom's place, not to ask for help, but because she is desperate to get away from Dante, until she can enact her revenge on him and spitefully wishes to see Dante's plans foiled. She also reveals to Dom that she still feels nothing for Elena's death and tells him Dante will kill him and his family.
  • Incapacitates the black-site prison guards in order to escape the prison.
  • Engages in a brutal fight with Letty just because she was waiting for the perfect opportunity to escape, which resulted in more injuries for the both of them, and ending in a stalemate afterwards.
    • During the fight, Cipher tries to kill Letty with a high-tech surgical laser, which would have been a gruesome death if she succeeded.
  • While she does warn Dom about Dante and helps Letty escape prison, it is most likely for pragmatic reasons as she wants to kill Dante for hurting her and is possibly manipulating Dom and his family to carry it out for her, so she can resume her plans for world domination. Her smile at being retrieved by Gisele Yashar, though can be interpreted as a grateful one, it's strongly pragmatic, as she may plan to turn on Letty and Gisele once they are away from the Agency's reach.

Trivia[]

  • While Cipher is currently Pure Evil, there's a chance that this may change once Fast X: Part II and her upcoming spin-off film are released, especially due to the latter film possibly exploring her origin story among other things, although this is proven to be unlikely.
    • Furthermore, given her high amounts of reprehensible actions, its extremely unlikely she will even redeem herself (especially if her spin-off gets to be non-canon assuming it does get made due to a lack of recent announcements), and there is a strong possibility that she will remain evil, as her motives to help Dominic Toretto against Dante Reyes are purely pragmatic and will very likely turn against Dom once Dante is presumably defeated at some point in the final two planned sequels. Therefore, her pragmatic actions do not disqualify her Pure Evil status altogether.
  • Cipher, along with Brixton Lore, is one of the two Fast & Furious villains to be Pure Evil.
