| ~ Chef revealing her plan of becoming the queen of the Bergens to the Trolls. |
Chef Bergen is the main antagonist of DreamWorks Animation's 33rd full-length animated feature film Trolls, the first installment of the franchise of the same name.
She was the head chef of the Bergen Town's castle who hunts down trolls for her own kind's food, firmly believing that it would satisfy them. That is, until the events of the film through Poppy's ideas. Unlike the other Bergens, who were only mean because they wanted to be happy by eating trolls, she herself is actually evil on the inside wanting to gain power by feeding them Trolls through kidnapping the species and making them happy that way. She is also Bridget’s former boss turned arch-nemesis, as well as the arch-nemesis of Poppy, Branch, and the Snack Pack.
She is voiced by Christine Baranski.
What Makes Her Pure Evil?[]
- She dedicated her life to feeding the Trolls to her species by cooking them up in ways that involved mutilating them, as shown in her cookbook.
- Furthermore, Bergens have been known to eat Trolls without the need to butcher them alive, which not only makes her recipes unnecessary for the general Bergen population, but highlights how cruel she is.
- She ate Branch's grandmother before his eyes when he was a child, causing him to become pessimistic for a long time.
- She tried to feed a baby Princess Poppy to King Gristle, Jr. and dug shovels in the ground to find her, which could’ve killed dozens of trolls.
- She planned on killing King Gristle Jr. and taking over Bergentown as its queen.
- She kidnapped Sky Diamond, Biggie, Mr. Dinkles, Fuzzbert, Smidge, Satin, Chenille, Cooper, and Creek while terrorizing the trolls and nearly killing them, and she also knocked over a house while leaving Troll village which would make a troll homeless.
- She enslaved Bridget, leaving her with a lot of dishes to wash and verbally abusing her. This also includes physical abuse, as she throws a spoon at her when she leaves the Snack Pack with her.
- She had Creek use Poppy's cowbell to lure all of the other Trolls out of their hiding so she can capture them.
- While Creek was giving his side of the story to the other Trolls, Chef implied in her own words she was going to eat him alive regardless of the outcome.
- When the trolls convinced the rest of the Bergans that eating a troll is not how you become happy, she still didn’t change her ways and tried to chop up the snack pack with her knives, and shoved Chet and Todd, which all lead to her defeat.
- She shows no care for her species, only wanting to feed them so she can control them.
- Although she appears to honor her deal with Creek to spare him if he worked for her, this is only so she could be able to kill all the Trolls, and she tried to eat him anyway after her plan failed.
- Although Bergens wanting to eat Trolls is normal, she stands out because the rest of her species only ate them reluctantly because they believed it was the only way for them to ever achieve happiness while she does it to achieve power and sadism.
- Even in the end, she still tried to kill the Trolls even after they provided another solution to the Bergens’ problem about happiness already being inside them naturally where they gave in to their saying.
- Her backstory of getting banished by King Gristle Sr. doesn’t make her tragic as she goes far beyond it and it shows how petty she is, especially since she had the Trolls eaten long before her exile.
- Despite having some comedic moments, she and her crimes are still taken seriously.
- Although her death of being eaten by a Monstrous Hill is comedic, not only is it not played with sympathy, but it is also deserved for all her crimes.
