Hello, citizens of- (On-screen: Novalis) My race, the blarg, have a small problem. Our planet has become so polluted, overpopulated, and poisonous, that we are no longer able to dwell here, but I, Chairman Drek, have a solution. We are constructing a pristine new world using the choices of planetary components available. So, what does this mean to you, you might ask? Using highly sophisticated technology, which you couldn't possibly understand, we will be extracting a large portion of your planet and adding it to our new one. Unfortunately, this change in mass will cause your planet to spin out of control and drift into the sun where it will explode into a flaming ball of gas, but, of course, sacrifices must be made. Thank you for your cooperation. (Director: Cut!) And if you don't like it, you can take your whiny, sniveling, snot nosed population, form a line behind me and kiss my- We're still on? Well turn it off, you idiot!
~ Chairman Drek's first and most famous quote.
Chairman Drek: So it has come to this. Once I step on this ignition switch, a countdown will commence. The end of which signals the destruction of your pitiful world.

Clank: There must be another way to make a home for your people.
Drek: You think that's what this is about? Who do you think polluted our last world? I did. This is about one thing and one thing only: cash! And lots of it. You see, I've been paid for every square inch of my new world. Once the inhabitants move in, I will begin polluting this world as well. Then the whole thing starts all over again. Ah, brilliant.
Clank: Why, y-you... you evil little-

~ Chairman Drek revealing his true motives before the final battle

Chairman Drek is the main antagonist of the 2002 video game Ratchet & Clank.

He is a dictator of the race known as the Blarg, and aims to make a profit from polluting his home planet and making a new one.

He was voiced by Kevin Michael Richardson, who also voiced the Imperium in Justice League, Joker in The Batman, Trigon in Teen Titans, General Aguila in TMNT and the Shadow King in Wolverine and the X-Men.

What Makes Him Pure Evil?[]

  • He polluted his own planet on purpose to the point of becoming uninhabitable for his own race, a fact that he omitted when announcing his project to build a new planet to present himself in a positive light, but openly admitted his responsibility to Ratchet and Clank.
    • He secretly also told anyone who didn't like his plans to kiss his ass, unaware they were still filming.
  • He destroyed multiple planets, mostly populated, to assemble his new one, at the cost of billions of innocent lives.
  • He assaults planet Eudora after stealing enough wood resources, believing its inhabitants shouldn't have them either.
  • He invades and assaults planet Batalia, starting a war on it in the process.
  • He pollutes Pokitaru's waters, which creates ravenous mutant creatures that endanger the population.
  • He orders his Blarg to assault Oltanis to kill their inhabitants, steal their power supply, and then destroy "anything that doesn't move" and to "have fun". Judging by the massive amounts of destruction that had been caused by the time Ratchet gets there, it's safe to assume Drek's goals for Oltanis would not have been pleasant.
  • He attempted to destroy Ratchet's home planet Veldin to spite him for getting in his way, not caring about the many lives that would have been lost in the process.
  • He proudly admits to Clank and Ratchet that his motives are driven purely by greed as he was the one that polluted his home planet in the first place and that once his inhabitants move into his new planet, he will start polluting that one too and start a "brilliant" cycle of tragedy of him destroying planets and polluting his new ones over and over for profit only, quite likely continuing this cycle of massive destruction and genocide in other galaxies after destroying and consuming every planet of Solana, rendering his supposed only redeeming quality of wanting to find a new home for his race counterfeit. Clank was outraged when he admitted so.
  • Despite the very high heinous standard of Ratchet & Clank, Drek is the one who sets it with his multiple mundicides, multiple genocides, and global pollution, while also being the first villain to have personal cruelty towards Ratchet with him attempting to blow up his home planet just out of spite for getting in his way.
  • While he has comedic moments, mostly are for gaslighting and misleading propaganda videos and they don't detract from his crimes which are taken seriously.
  • He is also supposedly the former archenemy of Clank, since not only Drek is mainly though indirectly responsible for Clank's creation and tried to kill him from the very first moment he escaped from the Blarg robot factory on Quartu, but he also didn't waste time during the final battle on Veldin to tell Clank how disappointed he was for betraying him, admitting also it was a real shame because Clank was a potential and useful resource for Drek's plans of planetary destruction and conquest.

Trivia[]

  • The manual for the original Ratchet and Clank game mentions that Drek never forgets his mother's birthday, meaning that he probably cares for her. However, it's never brought up in-game and the mere fact that Drek was willing to put his people's lives (including his mother) in danger by purposely polluting Orxon and forcing them to pay for his new planet proves that he doesn't really care about her.
    • Alternatively, it is possible that she had passed away before the events of Ratchet and Clank, and afterwards, he no longer cared for anyone, shedding this redeeming quality.
