Ensemble Pure Evils play several roles and/or have traits inconsistent with one another in the stories in which they appear and, despite being Pure Evil, can be a completely different character than they were in a previous story.

Often times, this can prevent villains from being Pure Evil as these types of characters may have redeemable traits in one story and none in another or their medium itself may even be too comedic, as the origins of Ensemble villains often are. However, these many portrayals can also be explained away as either being inconsistent with the regular continuity of the medium (if there is any), not being canon to the story as a whole, or they are just as evil in these separate portrayals despite the differences in their character or behavior.
