~ Cassandra Nova |
Cassandra Nova is the main antagonist of the 2024 Marvel Cinematic Universe film Deadpool & Wolverine.
She is the evil twin sister of Professor Charles Xavier, the founder of the X-Men, who ended up in the Void and taking over as the leader of the pruned variants. As the Time Variance Authority is reformed by God Loki, Nova becomes the TVA's biggest threat that needed to be stopped. This in turn led to the recruitment of both Deadpool and a variant of the original Wolverine themselves.
She was portrayed by Emma Corrin.
What Makes Her Pure Evil?
- Despite the high heinous standards of both the X-Men film series and the MCU, Cassandra Nova easily stands out within the former's standards given how her threat overshadows anything Apocalypse ever did and within the latter's standards her omnicidal multiversal plans make her just as dangerous as Kang the Conqueror or Infinity Ultron.
- Although Cassandra Nova implies that she is capable of love and honor, it is only out of pure pragmatism. Especially since any hidden desire of expressing for the former, like experiencing sibling affection from her brother Charles (specifically Wolverine's variant of the latter), it is ultimately subsided in favor of her heinous whims when she was on the verge of destroying everything in the multiverse until the Void is all that stands.
- While she does have some comedic moments like saying the rent is due and Deadpool and Wolverine were the “rent” and her saying “Boys are so silly”, they don't detract from her heinousness in the slightest.
- Even before she was born, she strangled her twin brother Charles Xavier with a womb chord as their mother was pregnant with them, which led the Time Variance Authority to prune her to the Void.
- With permission from TVA agent Paradox, who assigned her to his watch so long as she doesn't leave the Void, she took over the wasteland, having her crew of fellow variants and/or TVA prisoners hunt down any new individuals sent there to either join her gang or be fed to Alioth.
- Claimed the corpse of an Ant-Man variant and used it as a hideout for her and her variant henchmen, essentially desecrating it.
- Killed several members of the Resistance formed by several super heroic variants to oppose her, being confirmed to have killed variants of the Punisher (most likely either the one from the 1989, 2004 or 2008 movies), Quicksilver (from the 2014-2019 20th Century Fox X-Men films), Daredevil (specifically the one from the 2003 eponymous film) and Magneto, especially the latter because his helmet could block her abilities, with only Elektra (the one from the 2003 Daredevil film and its 2005 Elektra spin-off film), Blade (the one from the 1998-2004 film trilogy), Gambit (the one from the cancelled 20th Century Fox film) and X-23 (the one from Logan) surviving and going into hiding.
- Likely killed a variant of her brother Charles Xavier who ended up in the Void, keeping his wheelchair as a trophy.
- Murdered a variant of Doctor Strange, keeping his Sling Ring for herself to use if necessary and for one time she wore his skin for four days.
- Had her crew capture and take the Human Torch (the one from the 2005-2007 Fantastic Four duology), Deadpool, and Wolverine to her headquarters, where she brutally skins the Human Torch alive via telepathy when Deadpool exposes that he trash-talked with swear words behind her back, reducing Johnny Storm to a heap of bones, blood and splattered insides that briefly remains alive before collapsing.
- Tortured Deadpool and Wolverine by burying the latter underneath the ground telepathically and mind-raping the former to revisit the moment he and his ex-girlfriend Vanessa Carlysle broke off their engagement after Deadpool got turned down from joining Earth-616's Avengers, even modifying it in an attempt to make Deadpool believe Vanessa told him he would never matter.
- Tried to leave Deadpool and Wolverine to be consumed by Alioth while she and her henchmen safely retreated, with them barely managing to survive.
- Sent her henchmen to fight the Resistance to death when they come to liberate the Void from her rule as she relaxed in her headquarters, leading Deadpool, Wolverine, X-23, Elektra, Blade and Gambit to kill all of her henchmen minus Pyro. This shows that she only saw her henchmen as tools and never cared about them.
- Psychically played around with Deadpool to then throw him aside and make Wolverine pierce himself with his own claws before mind-raping him to revisit the memory of him visiting the graves of his world's X-Men to remind him how he became the worst Wolverine in the Multiverse by stopping to pull his punches so he would join her side, but failed.
- Threatened to kill Deadpool and Wolverine once they neutralize her by placing her Juggernaut's helmet over her head, promising to kill Deadpool first despite him trying to negotiate.
- While she ultimately relents and helps them return to Deadpool's universe in gratitude for saving her from being killed by Pyro, who shot her as she remained neutralized, and being assured that her brother would have ventured into the Void to rescue her even though she still puts them at risk of being eaten by Alioth if they don't hurry, this becomes moot once she discovers from Pyro that Paradox set her up to be killed if she ever tried to leave the Void, leading her to go to Earth-10005 to sabotage Paradox's Time Ripper and use it to destroy all of the Multiverse's worlds and timelines until only the Void remains so she can rule over it as a god, even though such action would kill the two heroes who spared her life.
- Mind-raped Pyro and took him to Earth-10005 with her before twisting his neck gruesomely as punishment for his treason before proceeding to mind-rape Paradox too to learn how to use the Time Ripper he and his crew assembled on a subway for her plans.
- Summoned the Deadpool Corps to keep Deadpool and Wolverine from intervening in her plans, resulting in Nicepool's death.
- Redirected the Time Ripper's rift power to start her plans by erasing Earth-10005, almost succeeding if not for Deadpool and Wolverine overcharging the device's matter/anti-matter pillars to short-circuit the Time Ripper, disintegrating it and her.
Trivia
- One of the inspirations Emma Corrin had to play Cassandra Nova in an "humanizing" way as cited by Ryan Reynolds was Hans Landa, the main antagonist of Inglourious Basterds, who is Near Pure Evil instead.
- To highlight her Pure Evil status, director Shawn Levy opted for Cassandra Nova's villainy to not be detracted through any fourth wall breakings in order to not undermine her as the film's villain, insisting that only Deadpool were the sole character who can break the fourth wall for comedic purposes.
- She is the second female villain in the MCU to be Pure Evil, right after Nova Prime.
