Bryce Fairchild, also known as the Overseer and the Sage, is one of the two main antagonists (alongside Masataka Ebina) of the 2024 action-adventure RPG video game Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth, specifically being the main antagonist of the Hawaii arc.
Bryce is the Sage of Palekana, a religious Hawaiian organization with a history of more than one hundred years, worshiping the Volcano Goddess, Nele. However, it's revealed that Bryce is the infamous kingpin of the Hawaii criminal underworld, being the boss of two major crime organizations in Hawaii, the Barracudas and the Ganzhe, while leading the Palekana like a personal army of sorts, brainwashing people and even orphan children into his regime. He's also a major ally of Ebina, as the two work together in order to turn Nele Island into a radioactive island to kill off the yakuza in a horrific manner.
He is also hunting down for a girl name Lani Mililani, who is revealed to be the true legitimate successor to Palekana, which causes Bryce to immediately find and eliminate her, along with her protector, Akane Kishida, the mother of Ichiban Kasuga just so he can keep his position as Sage of Palekana. He's the second arch-nemesis of Kasuga.
In Japanese, he's voiced by Tōru Furuya and in English, he's voiced by Chris Parson.
What Makes Him Pure Evil?[]
In General/Background[]
- Even before becoming the false Sage of Palekana, it was heavily stated that he was the most distrusting figure in the religious organization, with the previous Sage and his wife greatly concerned about his ambitions.
- Hires a hitman to kill the previous Sage of Palekana and his wife, and steal the pendant that serves as a symbol of leadership. When the deed was done, he then proceeds to kill the hitman to cover his tracks.
- After becoming the sage, Bryce has been using Palekana to brainwash his followers, even including children, into becoming murderous sleeper agents, changing their identity and faces, and using them to infiltrate criminal gangs, police force, government, and even civilians. This allowed him to have complete control of Hawaii behind the shadows. Among these cultist acts, he did:
- Indoctrinates orphans into his cult by forcing them to execute people with guns.
- Forces his followers to enact a ritualistic battle to the death against each other to prove their loyalty.
- Have his own followers commit suicide, either to send a message or prevent them from telling their enemies valuable information.
- Had Wong Tou's mother killed and sent him her face to intimidate him. This caused him to join Brcye's underworld, both out of fear and a desire for revenge.
- Bryce ultimately stands out in terms of heinous standards, due to his unique act of brainwashing people (including children) into becoming fanatical agents while attempting to blackmail world leaders to take control of the world.
- He also stands out in terms of resources, since he's not only the sage of Palekana (a highly popular Hawaiian religious organization), but also the kingpin of the entire criminal underworld in Hawaii, as he often has his agents infiltrate certain places while leading dangerous criminal groups, allowing him to control the entire nation.
- although he tends to act fatherly and kind towards children, it is merely a facade as he has no actual care for them and only manipulates them into becoming his devoted agents.
- Despite being the kingpin of the Hawaiian underworld, he displays no care for them, viewing them as pawns. He is also heavily feared in the underworld, as he would often show cruelty towards anyone who dares to fail and/or betray him.
- While he works with Masataka Ebina, it's very clear their partnership is merely pragmatic as the two of them don't really like each other.
Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth[]
- When finding about Lani, the daughter of the previous Sage, being the legitimate successor of Palekana, he tries to have her kill to secure his power over Palekana, having every gang under his control to capture her. He also attempts to have Akane Kishida (Ichiban's mother) murdered after she left to protect Lani, and discovering Bryce's true colors.
- When Wong Tou tried to reveal his role as the Overseer, he had his men kidnap his son.
- He's indirectly responsible for the deaths of both Kihei Hanawa and Wong Tou.
- He showed no gratitude to Dwight Méndez and the Barracudas for successfully capturing Lani, as he was force to rely on Ebina's help, and even threatened to kill Dwight should he fail him again.
- After being confronted by Ichiban and his party, he reveals his true intention of keeping radioactive waste on his island. While the Yakuza sent by Ebina will be force to work at Nele Island under harsh environment til they die, Bryce will use the island to blackmail world leaders in order take control of the world, making himself a "God".
- Alongside his Haku warriors, he tries to kill Ichiban and his party in their final fight.
- During the fight, he had his followers use live dynamite on themselves in an attempt to kill Ichiban and co. (This makes him the only villain to use other people as suicide bombers).
- When one of his followers was beaten and tries to ask for Bryce's assistance, he coldly guns him down for failing to dispatch the heroes and takes his gun to fight the party himself.
- When his actions were exposed to the world, he tried to kill himself by falling in the radioactive water. However, he was stopped by Ichiban, who rightfully states that he must face punishment for his crimes.
