NOTE: This page is only about his film incarnation as the original book incarnation of Bogs Diamond was not voted Pure Evil, and thus only the film version of Bogs Diamond's info and crimes should be put here. |

Bogs Diamond is a major antagonist in the 1994 film adaptation of The Shawshank Redemption. Despite departing from the story early on unlike the main antagonist, Bogs stands out as one of the most vile characters of the film due to his crimes and predatory nature, essentially serving as a realistic example of real life prison rapists.
He was portrayed by Mark Rolston, who also played Alastair in Supernatural.
What Makes Him Pure Evil?[]
- He is, by the time the story takes place, already imprisoned in Shawshank, likely for raping people in the past or some other serious crime, given Shawshank's reputation as a prison for the worst kind of criminals.
- He assaulted and raped several inmates alongside the Sisters before Andy Dufresne was imprisoned at Shawshank, choosing him as his new target after Andy ignored his attempts to "befriend" him.
- What makes his actions towards Andy especially sick is they were done towards him not for being homosexual, but out of pure sadism.
- He harassed and raped Andy Dufresne for two years, with Red thinking Andy's first two years were the worst of his term due to the number of times he raped Andy.
- Had it continued, the prison would've gotten the best of Andy.
- He threatened to stab Andy in the skull if he refused to have oral sex with him, and a member of the Sisters he had broken the nose of in self-defense.
- He savagely beat Andy up for preying on his ignorance, sending him to the infirmary for a month.
- Though he was left in a horrendous and permanent state by Captain Byron Hadley under Warden Samuel Norton's orders, as Andy was helping them with their money laundering operations by this point, him being confined to a hospital bed and forced to consume food through a straw isn't played for sympathy at all and it was well deserved for his actions.
- It says something that the mere fact that Hadley, one of the film's most atrocious characters, puts an end to Diamond's reign of terror over Shawshank is arguably his best deed in the whole film.
- He’s overall the most vile and despicable prisoner.
- He also stands out due to having the unique crime of rape as well as personal villainy towards Andy due to sexually abusing and brutalizing him to the point of leaving him with PTSD.
Trivia[]
- In the original Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption novella, Bogs Diamond is just mentioned once and is simply transferred from Shawshank instead of being crippled by Byron Hadley, plus he also isn't the leader of the Sisters like in the film. Thus, Bogs is Pure Evil in the movie, but not in the book due to his lack of characterization in addition to failing the enormous Heinous Standards of Stephen King's Multiverse.
