Robert "Bobby" Hayes is the main antagonist of the 2013 supernatural action comedy film R.I.P.D..
He is Nick Walker's former partner and the boss of his henchmen, including his second-in-command, Fat Elvis, and the Deado army. He attempts to use the Staff of Jericho to keep souls from entering the afterlife and existing on Earth as Deados so he can stay on Earth forever.
He was portrayed by Kevin Bacon, who also played Sean Nokes in Sleepers, Sebastian Caine in Hollow Man, Sebastian Shaw in X-Men: First Class and Owen Whistler in They/Them.
What Makes Him Pure Evil?[]
- Was a corrupt cop even before death, accepting bribes in order to pay for lap dances.
- He becomes a Deado in order to avoid going to hell.
- He pressures Nick into keeping their stolen gold and not give it to the upper authorities.
- During a raid on a meth lab, Bobby then kills Nick when he tries to turn the gold in, and frames a criminal at the shootout for it.
- When Bobby is captured by Nick and his new RIPD partner Roy, Bobby and his fellow Deados steal back the gold and raid the RIPD base before escaping.
- He conspires with other Deados to collect more stolen gold to activate the Staff of Jericho, in order to reverse the flow of souls so they would all become Deados and never ascend to the afterlife just so he can stay on Earth forever. These actions would also result in many issues on Earth, including the Black Death and Global Warming, and the end of the living world. While Bobby isn't attempting to just bring chaos to Earth, he has absolutely no problems with the consequences.
- He sadistically reveals himself to be a Deado to Nick's wife, Julia, before kidnapping her to use as a human sacrifice.
- When Nick & Roy find him and the rest of the Deados, Bobby stabs and injures Julia for Nick to see.
- When a shootout then occurs, Bobby drags another Deado in front of him to take a bullet, proving Bobby doesn't actually care about his fellow Deados.
- While brutally beating Nick, Bobby taunts him by saying he chose Julia as the sacrifice because he couldn't resist "bringing it full circle", referencing his earlier murder of Nick.
- While the sequel's villain, Astaroth, does worse by poisoning an entire town, enslaving dozens of citizens to work in caves, and intends to break through the weak spot and unleash the spirits of Hell to kill and possess all of humanity, turning the Earth into a 10th circle of Hell he could rule, being a powerful demon and Satan's right-hand, Astaroth has a lot more resources than Bobby. Thus, Bobby still manages to stand out for his actions.
- While the film is a comedy, Bobby doesn't really have any comedic moments, with quite a few of his actions, especially killing Nick and injuring Julia, being taken very seriously.
