The Bloodwolf is the overarching antagonist of the DreamWorks animated Puss in Boots franchise, serving as the unseen overarching antagonist of DreamWorks' 23rd full-length animated feature film Puss in Boots and the main antagonist of The Adventures of Puss in Boots, specifically as the unseen overarching antagonist of Seasons 1, 2 and 3, the main antagonist of Season 4 and the posthumous overarching antagonist in Seasons 5 and 6.
He is a wolf-alike deity that has been believed to have existed long before the notion of time itself. His malevolent intentions are set on the utter annihilation of Earth. However, fate took an unexpected turn when he crossed paths with the formidable Great Mage Sino, resulting in a profound transformation of their relationship into that of arch-nemeses. As a consequence of their epic clash, this deity was ultimately condemned to eternal exile within the treacherous depths of the Netherworld.
He was voiced by Clancy Brown, who also played The Kurgan in Highlander, Baron Praxis in Jak II, Lex Luthor in Superman/Batman: Public Enemies, Silas in Transformers: Prime and the Evil Entity in Scooby-Doo: Mystery Incorporated.
What Makes Him Pure Evil?[]
- In a previous time, his malevolent intention was to obliterate the very planet we call home, Earth. However, his nefarious plans were thwarted by none other than the renowned and powerful sorcerer known as the Great Mage Sino. Utilizing his extraordinary magical abilities, the Great Mage Sino successfully expelled him from their realm, condemning him to a desolate and dreaded dimension, Netherworld.
- Once he is set free, he displays a complete lack of appreciation towards Uii, disregarding the fact that Uii was the one who granted him his freedom. In fact, he openly confesses his intentions of not only annihilating Earth but also eliminating Uii from existence.
- His intention is to annihilate Earth to the extent that only fear remains.
- He initiates a sinister form of psychological torture on the townspeople, subjecting them to the terrifying manifestation of their deepest fears, causing them to writhe in agony and scream in sheer torment.
- Although he is an ancient entity known for instilling fear, he displays traits of moral agency and possesses a clear personality due to his extreme sadistic tendencies. Additionally, it is not explicitly stated that he is made of fear itself, but rather he is closely linked to and closely associated with the concept of fear.
- Despite having the capability to eliminate the townspeople without much effort, he chooses to spare their lives. However, his intention behind this act of mercy is pragmatism, as he plans to subject them to unimaginable suffering while they helplessly witness the annihilation of the entire planet. This contradicts the commonly held belief that he possesses a sense of honor.
- Unlike every other antagonists in the Shrek franchise, he stands out by lacking any comedic moments or redeeming qualities. In fact, he goes above and beyond what any previous Shrek villain has ever attempted, showcasing a level of seriousness that poses a significant threat. The gravity of his actions is so profound that one of the main characters is compelled to make a tremendous sacrifice, risking her own life, in order to vanquish the formidable Bloodwolf and safeguard the entire planet.
