Your Penance Stare doesn't work on me. I have no soul to burn.
~ Blackheart to Ghost Rider.
Forgive me, Father, for I have sinned... I've sinned a lot...
~ Blackheart's sacrilegious gloating.

Blackheart is the main antagonist of the 2007 Marvel movie Ghost Rider.

He is the malicious demonic son of Mephisto. He wanted to overthrow his father and destroy Earth by spreading Hell's influence over the world. He is one of Ghost Rider's two archenemies alongside his father Mephistopheles.

He was portrayed by Wes Bentley, who also voices Niander Wallace in Blade Runner: Black Lotus.

What Makes Him Pure Evil?[]

  • Escaped from Hell and his father Mephisto.
  • Decided to overthrow his father, who he considered weak and old, and attempted to steal his powers for himself.
  • Murdered all of the Hell's Angels biker members in the biker club, including a waitress, by sucking their souls.
  • Summoned three demons Gressil, Wallow and Abigor, to help him find the demonic Contract of San Venganza to conquer Earth and turn it into Hell.
  • When confronted by Mephisto to return to Hell, Blackheart justifies his actions by claiming he is taking what is owed to him. While he alludes to having been neglected or abused by Mephisto, he is portrayed as selfish and entitled rather than tragic or sympathetic.
  • Didn't care about his own men, allowing them to be killed by Ghost Rider and not even trying to save them.
  • Killed an innocent railroad worker even after he told him where the graves were.
  • In the extended edition, he brutally beats the Caretaker to make him tell him where the Contract of San Venganza is. While he spares Caretaker's life, it was only done pragmatically because Caretaker is the only one who knows where the Contract is, which serves his later plan to make Johnny give it to him since without the Caretaker, Johnny wouldn't have been able to find it for him.
  • Killed a priest in the church after he accused him of his evil deeds.
  • Killed Johnny's best friend Mack.
  • Kidnapped Roxanne to force Johnny to bring him the contract of San Venganza, and incapacitated her by using his usual ability to make people wither and decay when touching them, but only did it to an extent that left her in a state of great pain.
  • Tried to kill Johnny and Roxy.

Trivia[]

  • He is Pure Evil, unlike his comic counterpart, who isn't and lacks moral agency.
