Henry "Big Smile" Lee is the main antagonist of the 2012 video game Sleeping Dogs, being the overarching antagonist of the first half and the main antagonist of the second half of the main storyline.
He is a crime lord that is one of the Sun On Yee's most powerful members due to his various connections and successful businesses that involve drug dealing, porn films and prostitution. Lee is also infamous in the triad for responding to even the smallest of situations with over the top brutality, sending his horrifying enforcer Liu Shen Tong to torture anyone who wrongs him to death on a regular basis with cruel methods that shock even the most hardened members of the Sun On Yee, though no one does anything about it both out of fear of Lee and also because of his lucrative success despite how much everyone loathes him.
He was voiced by Tzi Ma.
What Makes Him Pure Evil?[]
- Said to have started his criminal career as an enforcer, implying that he personally tortured others for the Sun On Yee.
- He is responsible for Hong Kong's corruption in general and isn't in anyway shown to care about his depraved nature and enjoys the carnage he causes as evidenced.
- His favorite method of killing people is burying them alive six feet underground on deserted islands with near zero chance of them being rescued.
- While He and Ponytail killed Big Scar Wu under orders from Uncle Po the way they killed Big Scar Wu by stabbing him and running him over was too excessive and they even fed him to the smiley cat factory causing Big Scar Wu to become Smiley Cat
- He is the catalyst for all the events that happened in Wei Shen's life and the game in general
- He is indirectly responsible for Wei Shen's rampage and Vendetta against the Triads and it's likely He wouldn’t care about the lives he endangered.
- He also has no restraints with Castration, Mutilation of any kind and has no qualms with any type of Torture.
- Even his Protection Rackets are not safe from him as Benny seems to fear him more than anyone
- He is also feared by even the most dangerous Triad members and given he has no standards with his methods and given his works with Liu Shen Tong it's no surprise that other Sun On Yee Members hate him
- Created a massive prostitution ring alongside Sonny Wo and Dogeyes Lin just so he could get women under his control and pimp them onto the streets of Hong Kong for money and also carnal pleasure for men in the Sun On Yee, with even minors not being safe from this ring.
- He is even shown to be a strong Drug Dealer and is willing to have people killed if they betray him
- Hired Liu Shen Tong as his main enforcer, who had a reputation as a very sadistic and brutal torturer and assassin while ordering him to commit the most brutal and depraved methods of murder possible.
- He ordered Tong to kill Charles Ho in which Ho was killed in this horrifying way:
- Having multiple incisions made in his body along with drill holes inside his body.
- Having many of his fingers and toes broken with a hammer.
- Having one of his eyeballs removed.
- Using distinct burn patches on Ho.
- Electrically burning both of his feet.
- Cutting into Ho multiple times, at varying lengths and depths.
- And after all that, letting Ho die of asphyxiation by being buried alive to further torture him.
- It is shown that even his minions that work for Dogeyes are scared of him and it's not at all surprising that even Winston finds Big Smile Lee disgusting.
- It's likely he enabled crimes of Hotshot or Naz and numerous other characters even if indirectly and he seems to be willing to endanger Wei Shen's love interests and friends if possible given he doesn't care about the crimes committed and the brutality of the crimes.
- Many other hardened triad members feared Lee as even they saw his methods as extremely brutal and too far.
- He orders Dogeyes to shoot up Winston's wedding and kill Wei and Uncle Po in the process, which leads to Winston and his bride Peggy dying along with tons of collateral damage.
- He is indirectly responsible for Mrs. Chu killing Johnny Ratface and Dogeyes while he knows about them, he didn't cared at all, given that even Dogeyes is likely terrified of him as well even though Dogeyes absolutely deserved his gruesome fate. Additionally, Big Smile Lee doesn't flinch at the brutality of how his minions died, meaning Mrs Chu enforcing cannibalism was indirectly his fault.
- He works with the rival 18K Triad in order to hijack Wei's business after Winston's death and to kill off all the remaining Sun On Yee members by starting a civil war against the two triads, leading to many innocents getting endangered in the process and Jackie getting kidnapped at the funeral just so he could become chairman out of selfishness.
- After he kidnaps Jackie, he then orders his men to bury him alive on an island, with Jackie having survived thanks to Wei Shen arriving in time to rescue him.
- If not for Wei Shen's Sting Operation against Yar Kwai Lai, it's likely that Ilyana and Katushka, as well as other women, would've been trafficked and it's likely that Big Smile Lee would've taken advantage of their immigration status.
- When he is rejected as being chairman by default, he throws a temper tantrum and demands that if he is not voted as chairman, things will be disastrous for the Sun On Yee. When all the other red poles don't care about Lee's threats, he decides to try and kill everyone who would vote against him, just so he could become chairman.
- Orders Tong to torture and murder Jackie in an alleyway, with Tong then luring Wei into a trap and capturing him after Wei was shocked by Jackie's corpse, which made him Wei's most personally hated villain, even more than Dogeyes who murdered his sister and mother indirectly.
- He then ordered Tong to torture Wei, with him getting incisions cut into him, one of his feet smashed with a hammer and getting drilled in his thigh, with Lee planning to have the torture last for a while before eventually burying Wei alive to prolong his torment.
- It's also no surprise that he is indirectly responsible for Tong's death even though Tong Deserved it it's likely that despite Everything Tong did for him even so he likely doesn't seem to mind all the carnage he causes.
- He shows no care for his loyal men, as when Wei kills Dogeyes, Tong and Ponytail, he shows absolutely no sadness over their deaths and even calls Dogeyes and Tong "f**king useless idiots" despite everything they have done for him (not to mention that both Dogeyes and Tong were also Pure Evil).
- As his last attempt, he personally attempts to kill Wei while taunting him and berating both his own and Wei's dead henchmen/friends.
- Although it's implied that he has daughters going through college in the United States, there's no onscreen indication that he even cares about them, if at all (and if it were the case, then it's heavily out of pragmatic reasons). Therefore, it does not disqualify his Pure Evil status altogether because the severity of his crimes outweigh his off-screen claims.
- Even though he visited Uncle Po in the hospital, It is never shown that he cares about him and judging from his expression, he's completely indifferent about his illnesses and injury as a result of a shooting at a wedding, showing his lack of care or concern about Uncle Po. In fact he is indirectly responsible for Uncle Po's death.
- As stated while Sonny Wo has the women in his films sent to Prostitution from Pornography it is Big Smile Lee who is the mastermind as he seems to be the one who forces women in his films to be sent to Prostitution if they fail him or make him upset in anyway.
- It's likely that he sent thugs to attack King showing he doesn't care for even his producers whatsoever.
- While he was upset about Sonny Wo getting arrested, it's likely that he is more upset about his businesses being found out instead of showing genuine care or concern, making his anger rather pragmatic at best.
- It's likely he had Sonny Wo killed for knowing too much. While Sonny Wo deserved it, it doesn't change that he did it out of fear of being exposed.
- He doesn't seem to even care that his minions are arrested, nor does he care that his minions are dead.
- He is indirectly responsible for Mimi Shen's death given he founded the prostitution ring with Dogeyes as revealed by Dogeyes himself and is also indirectly responsible for Margaret Shen's Suicide as well as Wei Shen's Vendetta against the Triads.
- He doesn't care for the 18k Triads, even though he works with them. He simply sees them as expendable and is willing to incriminate them for the attacks on the Sun On Yee.
- It's likely that he would've probably taken over the 18k Triads' turf as well as the Sun On Yee given his greedy nature and he likely if successful would've wiped them out to cover his tracks.
- He is also indirectly responsible for Sonny Wo's attempt to force Sandra to have sex with older men, even though Sandra was 16 years old. He is also willing to threaten women with prostitution if his stars fail him, meaning Ricky Wong is scared of Vivienne being trafficked; it is also revealed that even children are not safe from his prostitution ring, which would make him a pedophile.
- He is also indirectly responsible for Vincent's death, given he works with the 18k Triads with organ trafficking to make himself Chairman.
- He is even willing to shoot hospitals as revealed by how he has no qualms endangering innocents, with one example being a nurse being killed by his minions.
- During his Fight With Wei Shen, he taunts him on how he betrayed Jackie just as bad as Pendrew betrayed Wei himself, as well as the fact that he shot Wei Shen and was beating him up while he was down on the ground.
- While his death was gruesome, he 100% deserved it for all his heinous crimes.
- In the DLC pack Zodiac Tournament, it's likely he helped fund Zhang's Tournament and was also indirectly responsible for the events in the game.
- In the DLC Nightmare in North Point, he was posthumously responsible for Smiley Cat's rise in the afterlife and was also responsible for the endangerment of Not Ping in her indirect possessed state as well as the endangerment of Hong Kong, given Smiley Cat's revenge against the Sun On Yee.
- In the DLC Year of the Snake, he was also posthumously the reason Wei Shen got blamed for the property damage and the carnage that follows him given that even in death, Wei Shen is not immune to being a scapegoat.
