Barry the Chopper, or "Number 66", is an antagonist in the 2003 anime version of Fullmetal Alchemist. He is a psychotic mass murderer who enjoys killing women and butchered many innocents.
He was voiced by Jerry Jewell in the English version, and both Kentaro Ito as his regular voice and Aya Ishizu while in his female disguise for the Japanese version.
What Makes Him Pure Evil?[]
- During a fight with his wife, he kills her and chopped her up into several pieces.
- Enjoying the thrill of killing his wife, he continued his murdering spree and murdered dozens of young women in his meat truck by disguising himself as a woman and tricking them.
- Kidnaps Winry and attempts to kill her, only narrowly being stopped by Edward.
- Ties Edward to a chair, disconnecting his automail arm while gleefully explaining his love for killing before attempting to butcher him with his cleaver as he squirms free and attempts to run.
- During his fight with Alphonse, with his soul affixed to a suit of armor, Barry psychologically toys with Alphonse by making him believe that his personality and entire identity could be a fabrication created by his loved ones. When Alphonse attempts to use the same argument against Barry, he finds it irrelevant, stating it doesn't matter whether his soul was real or not, and all that mattered was indulging in his love for killing before attempting to kill Alphonse.
- Cowardly flees from the laboratory when encountering both Alphonse and Scar.
- Joins a mercenary group working for the military as an excuse to butcher more people, and slaughters several helpless Ishvalan refugees.
- Unlike his manga and 2009 anime counterpart, who was presented as more comedic and eventually ends up redeeming himself, this version is much more psychotic and sadistic, displaying no honorable or redeeming qualities whatsoever.
Trivia[]
- Barry the Chopper is one of a few Pure Evil characters of the 2003 anime to be much more horrid than their manga counterparts, the others being Pride and Solf J. Kimblee.
