My children our time is at hand. We must dispel our enemies. Listen to my words. You are the army of Dormammu. You must recover the Wand of Watoomb. Let nothing not even your own destruction stand in the way.
~ Baron Mordo sends his minions to recover the Wand of Watoomb.
Cletus Kasady : We're gonna wreack glorious carnage throughout the land!
Baron Mordo: Carnage, aye? I like the sound of that. You promised us carnage, deliver it. Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha!!!
~ Baron Mordo as he gives Cletus Kasady his symbiote.

Baron Mordo is a recurring antagonist in Season 3 of the 1994 superhero animated television series Spider-Man.

He is a sorcerer who specializes in dark magic, and had used his powers to try to release the demonic entity known as Dormammu from the Dark Dimension. He is an enemy of Spider-Man and Doctor Strange.

He was voiced by the late Tony Jay, who also voiced Lord Dregg in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (1987), Megabyte in ReBoot, and Judge Claude Frollo in Disney's Hunchback of Notre Dame.

What Makes Him Pure Evil?[]

  • While he was a student for the Ancient One, he planned to use his powers to kill his master out of his lust for power. When Strange tried to warn the Ancient One, Mordo used a spell to silence him.
  • Upon being banished by the Ancient One for his actions, he sought Dormammu, a soul draining demon, from the Dark Dimension so he may bring him to Earth to drain all of its life force.
  • Under Dormammu's command, he started an order, known as The Center for Reunification, in which he would brainwash innocents into believing they were reunited with their lost loved ones, when he was actually possessing them into stealing the Wand of Watoomb, so he may use it to unleash Dormammu. He nearly succeeds the first time until Spider-Man stops them. One of his next victims is Peter Parker's love interest, Mary-Jane Watson.
  • His actions put a strain on MJ and Peter's relationship when the latter tries to talk some sense into her.
  • When Spider-Man tries to stop him, Mordo brainwashed him into believing he is reunited with his dead parents. He later possessed him into joining his other slaves in stealing the Wand of Watoomb. The wand is stolen and Spider-Man nearly succeeds in killing Dr. Strange until the latter frees him of Mordo's spell.
  • When Spider-Man thwarts him in his attempt to give the wand to Dormammu, Mordo tries to kill him as well as Dr. Strange.
  • After his first attempt at unleashing Dormammu fails, he starts a technology company at Stark Industries under Dormamu's orders so he may create the Inter-Dimensional Probe, which could bring Dormammu to Earth. He later breaks into the industry and uses a computer to bring back the Venom symbiote from a probe, so he may use it to bond with Eddie Brock and take the probe-despite the symbiote being a very dangerous creature.
  • He hypnotizes a young woman into bonding with the Venom symbiote, so she may break Eddie out of an insane asylum. The plan is a success and several cops are injured by Venom as a result.
  • When Venom is struggling against Spider-Man and War Machine, Mordo hypnotizes the young woman's lover into bonding with the Venom symbiote's spawn, Carnage, so he may break dangerous criminal Cletus Kasady out of the same asylum and bond with him. Therefore, Mordo is responsible for creating one of Spider-Man's most dangerous and bloodthirsty enemies.
  • When Kasady voices his desire to cause "carnage' upon bonding with the symbiote, Mordo revels in the idea with sadistic glee, and orders Kasady to deliver on what he promised.
  • He displays no reaction when Carnage makes it clear he only intends to bring the probe to Dormammu out of self-interest rather than loyalty-indicating that his dedication to Dormammu is only out of power and not loyalty.
  • Does not care for Carnage or Venom, proven when he did nothing to stop them from trying to kill each other once they brought the probe to him.
  • Ordered Carnage to drain several souls upon given new powers from Dormammu, so he may put them into an urn to replace Dormammu in his dimension, thus allowing him to leave it and destroy Earth. Carnage ends up draining at least 12 innocent lives, including those of Lieutenant Terri Lee and Venom's lover, Dr. Ashley Kafka.
  • Tries to kill Spider-Man, Iron Man, and Venom when they fight him and Dormammu.
  • Is uncaring when Venom is sucked into the portal to the Dark Dimension because of his actions.
  • Gets away with his crimes, and is fully intent on trying to bring Dormammu back to Earth once again.

Trivia[]

  • He is currently the only incarnation of Baron Mordo to be Pure Evil.
