Barnaby Crookedman is the main antagonist of the 1997 animated film adaptation of Babes in Toyland.

He was voiced by the late Christopher Plummer, who also portrayed Harlan Caruthers in The Clown at Midnight.

What Makes Him Pure Evil?[]

  • He tries to kill Tom Piper by shooting down his hot air balloon and stranding him in the Goblin Forest.
  • He initially refuses to take in his orphaned nephew and niece, Jack and Jill, only allowing them in when he is told he will be given money for doing so.
  • He forces Jack and Jill to spend all their time in the attic. He also sends them to bed without dinner. When Jill states that they are hungry, his response is "Good".
  • During his walk to toyland he is seen taking candy from a baby and shoving a chef’s face in the cake.
  • He threatens to feed Jack and Jill to the goblins if they make any noise before morning.
  • He orders Rogrego and Gonzago to take Jack and Jill and feed them to the goblins.
  • He temporarily kills Humpty Dumpty by breaking him.
  • He leads the goblin army to Toyland, allowing them to rampage around the town, setting buildings on fire. It's mentioned the goblins intended to eat all the inhabitants. At one point, a baby is shown about to be attacked.
  • He tries to get the Goblin King to spare him and eat Jack and Jill instead showing how much of a coward he is.
  • While he had an unhappy childhood, he is proud of it, and he wants to make everyone as miserable as him.
  • While he does own a cat, Scat, there's no evidence he truly care for him beyond a mere companion pet.
  • While he had some comedic moments they don't detract from his villainy as he ended up becoming darker with no comedic traits at the end.
  • He knows full well that he is evil and is even proud of it, so much so that he even sings a song about his evilness.

Trivia[]

  • This is the only version of Barnaby from any adaptation of Babes in Toyland to currently be approved as PE.
