NOTE: This article is only on account of the TV series version of Badrang the Tyrant as the book version was not voted Pure Evil.

Badrang the Tyrant is the main antagonist of the third season of the animated TV series Redwall, adapted of the book saga with the same name. He is a tyrannical and ruthless stoat who has been known as the scourge of the seas and for enslaving many creatures into doing hard labor every day. Eventually, he would encounter Martin who would lead a rebel against him, which would cause the two to become archenemies with Badrang eventually even killing someone Martin loved dearly.

He was voiced by Diego Matamoros, who also voiced Cluny the Scourge.

What Makes Him Pure Evil?[]

  • As a corsair, he had ravaged the coasts, killing and enslaving creatures, to the point of where Luke had to set out to try to put an end to his reign of terror himself.
  • During said ravage, he is shown to have attacked a ship with about several creatures on it by crashing into it with his ship and having his minions shoot lit arrows to set the ship on fire, seemingly getting the creatures on the ship killed while laughing sadistically.
  • He has captured a total of hundreds of creatures and enslaved them into doing hard labor at his fortress Marshank on a daily basis, putting them in hard conditions and having them carry heavy stacks while his minions whip them and they toil in the sun, with the creatures having shown to be exhausted and tired of this to the point of occasionally collapsing.
  • It is implied that he had gotten Martin's father killed, given that his last scene was him going off to fight Badrang and him never being seen again.
  • Upon arriving with some of his minions on the island where Luke's tribe resides, he proceeds to capture all of them, including Martin and his grandmother, (the latter being implied to have died because of Badrang), steal the sword Luke gave to Martin, and take them to his fortress for them to join the other creatures there in slavery.
  • After Martin started a fight with a few of his minions while trying to defend one of the slaves who had collapsed from the labor from being whipped, Badrang attempted to feed him to the seagulls by tying his arms and legs to two wooden poles outside of his fortress where the seagulls are nearby to get him mauled apart only for another mouse named Rose and a mole named Grum to save him by throwing rocks at the seagulls.
  • After Felldoh and Brome were caught throwing rocks at the seagulls and his minions to contribute to defending Martin, he tosses them into the prison pit which he uses to repeatedly starve slaves before tossing Martin in a bit later as well after the latter had bit him.
  • It is implied that he had betrayed his former friend Clogg by leaving him stranded on an island and taking his slaves for himself.
  • When Clogg demands for his half of the slaves, Badrang refuses and after Clogg tries to take them by force, Badrang quickly outwits him and holds him hostage, threatening to kill him and his henchmen if they do anything, forcing them to leave the fortress as a result.
  • After getting a report from one of his minions that word has been spread that the prisoners in the pit have gotten the fever (which is really just a farce), Badrang tells him to spread the word to the other slaves and threaten to toss them into the pit with them should they commit any wrongdoings before telling him that if his fortress isn't finished soon, he might throw a few of his own captains into the fever pit with them.
  • When Clogg and his crew try to break into Badrang's fortress, Badrang has his minions set his ships on fire with arrows.
  • After Scalrag gets reluctantly returned to Badrang by Clogg, Badrang proceeds to tickle torture him while interrogating him on what happened to the slaves with the fox mentioning that 5 of them escaped which Badrang dismissed as a lie (when it really wasn't) since he put 3 prisoners in the pit, causing Badrang to have him continue being tickle tortured to the point of where he would force him to hang onto a rope above the gates while being tickle tortured until he falls to his death, while showing it to Clogg.
  • After inviting Drewp into his tent to eat, he asks him questions about the prisoners that escaped and the plan that the remaining slaves have concocted and when he doesn't give him the information he wants, Badrang threatens to kill him until Drewp tells him where the weapons are buried with Badrang making him his next spy to spy on the slaves.
  • After trying to find the weapons they buried with his minions digging and being unable to find them, humiliated, Badrang announces that the slaves will have double workloads tomorrow, unaware that Kayla had moved the weapons over.
  • He proceeds to berate Drewp for supposedly making a fool of him and then threatens to kill him should he make a fool of him again.
  • After Ballaw, posing as Tibbar, had put Felldoh (who is disguised as a fox) inside a box while he and his circus troupe, the Rosehip Players, put on an act as magicians after being invited in by Clogg, Badrang impaled the box with his sword. While Felldoh wasn't inside the box due to Tibbar making it look like he had disappeared, this shows that Badrang wouldn't have cared if he had killed him.
  • After Drewp alerted him and his minions of the slaves' attempt at escape, Badrang rallied his forces and attempted to prevent them from escaping while battling Felldoh and even attempted to kill one of them by throwing a spear at them.
  • In order to prevent Clogg from taking any of the slaves, Badrang had one of his minions try to deliver a bottle of poisoned wine to him, laughing at the idea, only for his minion to be killed by one of Clogg's minions, who was sent there to kill Badrang himself. When Badrang discovers that he died, he showed no remorse over it.
  • Upon discovering that the rest of his slaves escaped, Badrang and his minions began to chase after them to get them back.
  • After failing to capture them, he makes a plan to ambush them and take them back later.
  • Upon discovering that Clogg and his minions has taken over his fortress, Badrang and his minions sneak in and hold them hostage, giving his minions the choice to either become slaves, be killed, or pledge their allegiance to Badrang. After they decided to pick the third option, Badrang proceeds to enslave Clogg and starts off by forcing him to fill up the prison pit.
  • After the creatures he enslaved began to attack his fortress by setting it on fire, Badrang ordered his minions to return fire by shooting arrows at them, which ended up killing one of them whose name was Juniper.
  • Upon seeing three other creatures whom he mistook for slaves attacking when they are really his minions returning from a distance, Badrang orders his minions to shoot arrows at them, killing them. While he does find out that they were really his minions later on, he doesn't show remorse and instead has one of his minions enslave Clogg to bury them to get their bodies off the land while telling him not to spare the rod for Clogg.
  • Upon spotting Felldoh returning to Marshank, Badrang sets up an ambush to kill him while luring him in first and starts off by challenging to fight him like a warrior one on one in his first attempt to kill him. When Felldoh ends up getting the upper hand and having Badrang at his mercy, Badrang gives the signal for his minions to come out and attack and kill him.
  • When a few of the other creatures arrive to save Felldoh, Badrang orders his minions to fire arrows at them only to end up retreating when the creatures gain the upper hand with the rocks they have thrown.
  • Afterwards, he has some of his minions take 50 fighters to the wall and pin down the slaves on both sides with the intent to force them to either surrender and return to his fortress as slaves or be killed.
  • When he gives the creatures one last chance to surrender and they refuse, Badrang has his minions attack and try to kill them all only for more creatures led by Martin to attack and save them, forcing Badrang to have his minions' retreat.
  • He then makes a few last attempts to kill all the creatures he had enslaved as well as the creatures assisting them, which would have given him a body count of hundreds had he succeeded.
  • After the creatures break into the fortress, Badrang kidnaps Rose and holds her hostage so that he can get away from the place.
  • When running into Martin who tries to rescue Rose from Badrang's clutches, Badrang orders him to drop his sword under the threat of killing her if he does not comply.
  • After Rose bites his hand to make him drop the sword, Badrang quickly picks it up and proceeds to kill Rose with it in an act of spite against Martin. What makes this even worse is the impact it would leave on Martin as he becomes deeply heartbroken and even a bit traumatized about this event due to how much he loved her and even left the forest for some time due to the amount of pain the memory of Rose brings him here and even refused to fight with his father's sword for a while since it is the very same blade Badrang used to kill her, making him a very personal enemy to Martin.
  • He makes one last attempt to kill Martin out of spite only for Martin to outsmart him by impaling him with the sword himself, putting an end to his tyranny once and for all.
  • Due to the heinous standard being far lower than in the books, Badrang manages to stand out in the TV series for having the second highest body count and attempted body count, his mass slavery being the worst type in the show, consisting of creatures being forced to do hard labor while being whipped, starved, and toiling away in the sun to the point of occasionally collapsing, his attempt at killing Martin by getting him viciously mauled apart by seagulls being the most brutal attempted murder, and his acts of personal cruelty towards Martin that warrant him being his most personal foe.

Trivia[]

  • Only the TV show version of Badrang the Tyrant qualifies as Pure Evil as the book version has to compete against a much higher heinous standard with mass murder and mass slavery being far more common to the point of where Badrang fails to some characters that outheinous him in those crimes.
  • Many of Bandrang's traits in the animated series can be traced to Vilu Daskar, who has a similar personality to him.
