Auric Goldfinger is the titular main antagonist of the 1959 James Bond novel Goldfinger and its 1964 film adaptation of the same name.
He is a powerful gold smuggler, jeweler, and metallurgist, and the head of his gold company, Auric Enterprises, who plots to destroy the US gold supply, increase the value of his own gold, and become the richest man on Earth.
He was portrayed by the late Gert Fröbe, and his voice was dubbed during post-production by the late Michael Collins.
What Makes Him Pure Evil?[]
- He considered his Korean henchman, Oddjob, an "animal" and a "beast" and treated him as such.
- He had Oddjob kill Jill Masterson through skin suffocation, then cover her corpse with gold.
- He ordered the murder of her sister, Tilly.
- He tried to cut Bond in half with a laser.
- He killed criminals who wouldn't go along with his plan.
- He attempted to kill thousands in Fort Knox with gas.
- He attempted to set off a nuclear bomb in Fort Knox, which would have caused a worldwide economic depression.
- He threatened to kill Bond and Pussy Galore.
- Showed no care for his henchmen, not even Pussy Galore.
- Although his novel counterpart was bullied for his specific appearance, it can't excuse his actions.
Trivia[]
- Only the original novel and film incarnations of Auric Goldfinger can be considered Pure Evil, while his James Bond Jr. incarnation isn't for being too comedic to qualify.
- Auric Goldfinger is, alongside the classic fims incarnation of Ernst Stavro Blofeld and Emilio Largo, one of three Pure Evil Villains from the Sean Connery era. He is also the only Pure Evil from said era to have a main antagonist who isn't a member of SPECTRE.
